This may be a bit late, but the anime skipped the reason for Ares attacking. It was just a distraction to get Welf. Basically they used the Welf focused arc to... focus on Hestia. They also skipped a bunch of other stuff. This season was simply a very bad adaptation almost on par with how they butchered sword oratoria.
