Hot Takes!

Hey patrons, wanted to give something back to you. So instead of putting you on the first part of the next hot takes, you're going to get hot takes all on your own! So give me your spiciest dragon ball hot takes below, please! You got until December 1st!

Take #1, Bulma should have improved on Androids 17 & 18 Post Cell Saga, Clearly they had the Potential to level up, most likely even go beyond SS2 . This would have given the Z fighters a much more respectable boost as a team.

Rebs Hot Takes

DK

Hot take is that human characters shouldn't be able to scale up to the levels of saiyans without external help. Saiyans are supposed to be a powerful warrior race feared throughout the universe, yet the human Z fighters surpassed the strongest original saiyans fairly easily. It doesn't make sense from a world building perspective. Now, I'd like human characters to be relevant again, but not by training alone. They should have some other gap closer (like guru's potential unlock or something else external.)

Tj Tracker

Most DB side characters should be left in the background permanently at this point. While characters like Tenshinhan and Piccolo who always train definitely deserve buffs (Piccolo thankfully got his), characters who are essentially "retired" are being forced back into the plot. Kuririn got into martial arts to be popular with girls, he eventually scored said girl, started a family, and became a cop. Yet somehow the writers view him as more worthy of continued relevancy than Tenshinhan. Roshi is an even more egregious example in my opinion. ESPECIALLY in the manga, but just in general. He should have never been able to get to even Raditz level in his life, but the writers favor him, so he can weave Jiren and do all this other nonsense. He was in the backseat for exposition and slice of life moments for Z, and that's where he should've stayed. Yamcha is living an amazing life as a civilian and also retired. Leave him for slice of life episodes as well. My point is, we don't always HAVE to use every single character who doesn't have a major reason to want to fight anymore. It's okay to just let some people stay on the bench.

SuperTrunks4

Hot Take: DAIMA shouldn't have brought back Super Saiyan 4. Goku should of just gained a new demon-related form he could only use in the realm or he could fuse with Vegeta and Piccolo (Because Gohan isn't there) I'm all for fun in Dragon Ball, but SS4 was not it. Should have left that in GT (I love the form but not the DAIMA version), and why was Piccolo in DAIMA so useless? Why bring him along and drop the lore of Nameks being demons and do nothing with him? I love Toriyama-sensei, but it was not it.

Son_Manny

My hot take is that Dragon ball Kai, while objectively superior (voicelines, script fixes, music, animation) is still inferior to the conviction that we had with DBZ as kids, especially when factoring in cultural differences between the two regions' presentation of the show (western soundtrack influenced by Falcouner productions, the "macho" trend following wrestling, G.I. Joe and other militaristic-characters and ways of thinking). This is as much of a hot take for myself personally, as I used to blindly believe that Kai was superior, until I recently rewatched episodes that had the Falcouner score and realized that I still preferred that modality as it's what hooked me as a child. Also Videl pigtails is the cutest version of Videl because I think she looks like too much of a tomboy with her short hair. Also that Gohan SSJ2 was WAY more powerful than Super Perfect Cell, even with the former's arm injury based on the fact that Cell meant to DELETE Vegeta, and Gohan SSJ2 flew in without prioritizing his own protection, and simply lost an arm. Then, when Gohan finally digs deep and pushes with all his might, he not only completely overtakes Cell in the beam struggle, but also walks toward the villain. If Super Perfect Cell really was closer in strength and power to SSJ2 Gohan, he could and would have pushed back and continued to struggle, but he got EATEN by the beam itself. I only included multiple takes cuz you asked for "takes" :)

Taka Shimojima

1) Piccolo Daimao/Majunior were better antagonists than Vegeta or Frieza in their respective saga. Goku was sent from an evil race of aliens, but turned out good because of the kindness of humanity. Piccolo came from a kind race but turned out evil because he affected by the evil’s of humanity. 2) The idea that Goku turns evil just because he never hit his head has always felt weak. His goodness was never tied to a single accident. It came from Grandpa Gohan’s love, guidance, and patience. That is why I appreciate how DBS Broly handles the concept. Broly grew up in a far harsher environment than Goku ever did, yet his nature remained gentle, eventually becoming good thanks to Goku’s own kindness. It shows that upbringing and compassion matter far more than a bump on the head.

GreenTurret

My hot take is that I wish we got more videl fighting / gohan in school. Those were my favorite parts of the buu saga!

Rose Boop

My hot take is I hate the existence of Beerus and Whis, Zeno as well as all the other angels and I believe they should have never been introduced to the series (due to retcons etc)
