This operation was required to keep him in the family, and it also had consequences for her. If she truly didn't care for him beforehand - he would have been discarded from the family, and likely just become an artifical human in name.

2023-09-30 06:14:08 +0000 UTCSo Miya (Tatsuya and Miyuki's mother) is seen by many as a villain due to her behaviour in this arc, but IMO the key detail is what Miyuki noticed during the exposition. It's clear that Miya did originally have love for her child, but lost it after the experiment. She also admitted to deliberately leaving the one true emotion/strong urge left in Tatsuya to be love for Miyuki rather than herself. Regardless of whatever political reasons people can surmise, I'd like to believe that Miya did it for her children.
