The novel did so much more work getting across Kumoko's struggles, mentally, and physically. Her time in the dungeon is actually extremely traumatizing, each hard decision leaving her a little colder, and more detached, overcoming through determination, and grit. In the anime she always just seems happy and bounces right back.

2023-09-26 10:23:22 +0000 UTCThere were actual scenes of Kumoko talking about her trauma in episode 11 and 4. However, the novels were a lot more detailed regarding this. When she first fell from the shaft and saw Araba wipe out those wasps/snakes, Kumoko was so afraid that she acquired fear resistance. As she mentioned last episode, Araba noticed Kumoko and decided to spare her then. So it was a lot more complicated as a relationship than just a regular boss fight.
