Your synopsis on GEOD is super intriguing, I'll definitely give the audio books a listen. Thanks for the reply!

2023-05-05 01:07:40 +0000 UTCI should clarify, when I say "read" I meant listen to. I've only listened to the audiobook. It's how I consume all books. I can't imagine it being a dry read, though. It's very beautiful. I would highly recommend all of the books written by Frank Herbert. The series extends much further through his son's work, but I found Frank's to be the best. It extends up to book eight and is unfinished (with Frank as the author). But his train of thought is fascinating. Very interested in history as mythology and in a long term perspective of humankind. Just as much concerned with humanity as a species as the individual characters he writes about. My favorite is probably the fourth book, God Emperor of Dune. This and the first book are equal in quality, though very different. GEoD is more mythological in tone and narrative style. It picks up 5000 years after the third book. It's like if someone wrote a sci fi book 2000 years ago about the effects the figure of Jesus Christ would have in the future, where in this case, Paul is Jesus. What did humanity learn over this vast stretch of time? But it's always tightly connected to individual characters so that the concepts don't slip off into the purely abstract. If you read the first book (which I'd recommend) you will want to finish with Messiah and Children of Dune. But the latter two aren't as inspired. Audiobook all the way if it's more convenient for you. The narration by Simon Vance and Scott Brick is top notch. The production quality is not completely consistent throughout the book--sometimes they don't sub out narrators for different characters every time-- but just overlook it, it's not worth getting distracted by.

2023-05-04 22:31:28 +0000 UTCYou've read Dune MULTIPLE times? I know people who are self-proclaimed science fiction and fantasy novel nerds, and they described Dune as like the homework anyone who loves those genres basically has to do at some point. I really enjoyed the first film and really liked what I found when looking more into the series, would you recommend? And even if you recommend it, will it be a tough read? Aka. maybe get the audio book instead of the hard copy haha
