Fech The Ferret recap - Q2 2020

Helo again!

As June is coming to an end, it's time for the second quarterly report! Just like last time (click here if you missed it!) I'm going to summarize what happened during the past 3 months of development.

So, let's start big this time:

Some might have seen this coming: now I can officially announce that Alex (@SonicReforge on twitter) is now part of the project as level designer and environmental artist! I can't show much yet, but you'll definitely see what he's working on soon enough.
For now, let's just add this mysterious picture.

School ended! On June 25th I finally graduated from high school! This mostly means two things:
1. I won't be going to school up until October/November, and even when I'll start going to Uni, it won't get in the way of development as much as Lyceum did;
2. I was definitely not free during the past couple of months. Despite the lockdown let me have more time to spend making the game, the impending final exam made me stop working on Fech The Ferret for over a month. But worry not because-

-while I was busy, the people working with me were able to carry on with other aspects of development! One of the most notable examples is Fech's look getting updated with the help of Lilly and Dramis!

While I wasn't coding, more aspects of development progressed as well, among which story writing, level design and some game design elements.

Speaking of what I did make, around April I worked quite a bit on arae stages; as you probably know, they are hectic rhythmic levels all about running in dark tunnels and avoiding obstacles while enjoying loud catchy music.

So, what I've worked on in particular is improving the beat syncing and paving the way to creating a level editor for these rhythmic stages. You can guess how level creation works by looking at the strip scrolling on the top part of the gif.

You'll definitely see more about this part of the game later this year.

Ok, not really, it's in September, but the deadline for the trailer for it is indeed around the corner (mid July). Just like last time, I'm taking part to the expo this year as well and it'll be the occasion in which I'll post a brand new demo!

As I'm getting nearer to entering alpha stage of development, this Patreon will also see some changes. As I'll be working on more and more on parts of the game not meant to be spoiled, public demos will stop being my main way of getting feedback, private demos will instead become more and more common.  SAGE 2020's demo should mark the end of me posting every new demo publicly.

These private demos will be accessible only to those who have the role @tester in the discord server; something that is granted to few dedicated people in the community and those who'll back on Patreon an amount that has yet to be set (for now, it's the 10$ tier).

Final thing about Patreon: in the near future I'll start making patrons-only posts, they'll be high res versions of the official artwork of Fech The Ferret.

To finish this recap, from now on I want to also include one of the most important element of the development, the art. So I'll start including some of the pieces I've enjoyed the most in the previous 3 months. This time I present you:

As usual thanks a ton for all the inspiring art you all keep making!!

I don't have much more to add this time, as mentioned before a lot of exciting things are about to happen in the next three months, I can't wait to show you all that!

But for now, I'll just say
follow me on twitter (@RaoulWB, recently posted some great art!), join Fech The ferret's discord server (discord.gg/9QKKx6X) and make sure to ring that notification bell, k bye
