Probably something after that but that's obviously on top of their thoughts because of the quest they're on. And a note that I wrote after watching ep6 but didn't want to post before I knew you'd watched episodes 7-8 so as to not influence your opinion too much. (I really like s1 ep7-8 even with their faults.) If you like s1 costume design & effects let me tell you their budget got a HUGE upgrade between every season 🤣 S1 and especially the last two episodes of s1 were done on a shoestring budget compared to the later seasons (Covid lockdowns shut down production between ep6 and ep7 for 7 months and messed with everything. They had to rewrite the last episodes to work without any stunts (their stunt team couldn't come back) and two named characters whose actors left/were leaving and some locations for one. And of course since they were towards the end of filming they must have used most of their budget already.)

They had a whole scene set out in North Africa for the finale, but then covid hit and they had to scramble to come up with new sets to accommodate...and then the actor who played Mat quit so then they had to scramble to write hin out of the last two episodes which was a disaster because as any book fan knows, he's kinda key to this plot arc. They had to bring back actors to reshoot and it was pretty bad. Yeah so. That explains the cheaper sets. Next season recovers nicely and the third season is even better.

It's highlighting some things I hadn't really noticed before and giving me an appreciation of it as a standalone show that I couldn't get on my own, unable to stop analyzing all the changes they made to adapt it to a new medium and social context 35 years after the first book was published (oh no, has it really been that long 😱)

God I love the costumes, the story, that blend of cgi and practical, the fucking landscapes (a mix of Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia I believe), the diversity, and just everyythiiinnggg. I haven’t watched s01 since it aired and I’d forgotten how much of a banger the opening ep isssss. SO EXCITED for this journey!!! PS the guy who plays Lan is from MI like me which means I get to claim him haha.
