A laughing, ranting, crying discussion of Rent from someone who was a theater kid at the time it came out. That's why it's three hours long.

OH MY GOSH! I forgot my outrage that Halloween wasn't in the theatrical release!!!

2025-03-16 19:45:57 +0000 UTCjust downloaded all three parts to watch... its been years since I've watched this movie and with the Jonathan Larson Project opening on Broadway its probably a perfect time to watch with a "friend" and fellow theatre kid

2025-03-14 22:45:00 +0000 UTCI think Angels in America predates Philadelphia. It opened in San Francisco in 1991, and Broadway in 1993. While looking it up, I saw it was performed in London in 1993 with Daniel Craig and Jason Isaacs in the cast.

2025-03-14 12:11:02 +0000 UTCThank you so much for reacting to this. I’ve watched a couple reaction to this but it’s so different watching this with a fellow musical theatre kid cause you just GET. IT… this musical makes me so emotional in all the ways. It has branded itself onto my heart. I was so completely unaware of my queerness when I first watched this (even though my first kiss was with a girl, don’t ask me how it never even crossed my mind that I wasn’t straight 🤦🏽♀️). But I remember mimi having such a chokehold on me and I thought it was cause she looked cool and I wanted to be like her 😅. As I got older it finally clicked so this was definitely an awakening for me in more ways then one and I love when people truly appreciate it ❤️

2025-03-14 03:20:30 +0000 UTCNot me just now realizing the Rent soundtrack my friend burned for me when we were 13 (which I played on repeat for years after watching the movie) included the deleted songs, so I forgot they'd actually been cut. Damn.

2025-03-13 18:37:26 +0000 UTCOhhhh this musical, watching it about 100 times is what made little baby Bee figure out she was bisexual! And when I finally saw it on stage, the actor who played Angel walked down the aisle during his death scene and got an eyeful of me, sitting on the aisle, bawling my eyes out. I will never forget the shocked look on his face, and after the show when I got my program signed and he so sweetly made sure I was okay. I loved getting to watch this with you, it felt like a friend who knew all the moments I would have wanted to pause and say something 😊

2025-03-13 11:09:28 +0000 UTCMy brother was in the 20th anniversary RENT tour a few years ago, he played Roger. Lencia Kebede was also in that tour, she played Joanne. And Lencia recently became kinda famous so that’s cool.

2025-03-13 00:19:59 +0000 UTCI AM SO READY!!!!! Edit 3 hrs later: welll fuccckk meeee. I am so emotionally compromised rn 😭😭What. A. Film. Angel 😭😭 As a fellow bi theater kid in 2005, it was truly a pleasure viewing this with you. I actually did a musical theater camp at Oberlin College the summer of 2006 and we 100% had a gather round the piano and sing/act out La Vie Boheme moment soooo. Yeah. I also have sung Take Me or Leave Me and Out Tonight at karaoke so when you mentioned that I literally cackled. Like you said, I don’t care if this is cringe or whatever - it makes me feel things and I will never apologize for that. We NEED queer joy wherever we can find it honestly. Better a cringey queer than a fascist 🙃 Thank you again Shey for commissioning this. I thoroughly loved every second.
