He went looking for it in his past selves, at moments in time most affected by his connection to Spock, and saw that they were waiting for him to get a clue. Then it all clicks for him, where he is and what he has to do. Spock's been waiting for him longer than he was waiting for Spock after all, so he gets his ass moving. Canon or no, it sent me. AGAIN.
