Now if you remember in episode 3 when they met Monty, Monty correctly guessed that Edwin is a Capricorn. This finale does so many good things that I need a season 2. Jenny seeing the boys? Potentially going to London? The Night Nurse being on the team now? This would be such a different dynamic if we get to see them. And as someone who ships Edwin with the Cat King pretty hard I need to put attention to their goodbye. The Cat King giving him a Lily, which is poisonous for Cats? The symbolism! I know it was to give his condolences, but he could have picked a different flower. And for how long did Edwin know the number of cats? He just got back from hell, he didn´t have any time to continue counting since then. Also the fact that Edwin thought of counting the Cat King, when he himself didn´t even consider himself. God I love them. I know in the longterm Charles is probably supposed to be Edwin´s love interest, but I really hope we get something with the Cat King atleast for a while.

Can't wait for the finale! Today I saw someone post on twitter that the show was reported by a website to be "likely to be renewed" (hope it's accurate and true. fingers crossed.)

One of the reasons being the whole journey we saw Edwin go through and the another reason being the whole thing with Charles we got to see. I love their story, how they met and got to know each other and how they were to become so-called soulmates, quite fast too, I must say. They literally compliment each other, like yin and yang. I also love all the references in this ep, the writers of this show really put thought into everything.

2024-06-06 10:58:37 +0000 UTCHaving a lot of feelings about the fact that back in ep 4 when the Night Nurse looked through Charles' trauma she saw all of the events leading up to his death, but never the actual death itself. Because despite all the horror he suffered leading up to it, the last hours before he died were full of peace and comfort thanks to Edwin. I'm also just hugely emotional over the fact that Edwin had literally just escaped hell (he is still at the school, which implies he came back in the same place he was sacrificed and hadn't even had the time to go anywhere else yet), and he immediately stumbles upon another dying boy who was the victim of a hate crime committed by his peers, just like Edwin was. And instead of simply leaving or fleeing the scene out of fear that Death will send him back to hell when she comes for the boy, he chooses to stay by his side because he doesn't want him to be scared and alone the way Edwin was. He stays with Charles through the whole night, talks to him for as long as Charles is able, and when he gets too tired to speak or even shiver anymore, Edwin sits by his side and reads to him until he dies quietly and peacefully. That is an unfathomable amount of kindness from a boy who just escaped seven decades of nothing but torment and suffering. Another thing that makes me feel crazy about that scene is that when Edwin tells Charles that it's time for them to go their separate ways because Edwin just escaped hell and doesn't want to end up back there when Death shows up, Charles never even considers the possibility that he might have deserved to be there. He's known Edwin for all of half a day when he decides to choose him over heaven or any other potentially peaceful afterlife. Edwin showed him simple kindness and compassion with no expectation of getting anything in return, and Charles decided in that moment that he wanted to stay by his side forever and protect him from anything that might ever hurt him. A little fun fact to make you feel even more insane about all the DBD/SPN overlap; Richard Speight Jr. is actually the person who directed the SPN episode with the destiel confession. And Steve Yockey is basically known as the destiel king in terms of writers on SPN. So yeah... some interesting parallels... I actually rambled on tumblr about this but like, considering this show was made by multiple people who worked on Supernatural, it really does feel so intentional that Edwin gets sent to hell the moment he tries to confess his love to Charles. Only, unlike in Supernatural, Charles immediately moves heaven and earth to get to him. He follows Edwin down into his darkest horrors and nightmares and gently leads him out by the hand. And as they're ascending the stairway out of hell Edwin confesses again, and is met not with silence or rejection, but with instant acceptance, reassurance that he is loved, and a promise that they have an eternity to figure this out together. Anyway I could scream about that confession scene (and everything else that happened in hell) for hours on end, but this is already so long, so I'll simply leave it on the note that the actors for Charles and Edwin were both adamant that Charles' response to Edwin's confession very much leaves the door open for his feelings to change and grow with time so👀

And then later you see that horrid doll-head spider monster from Hell and you TOTALLY understand why Edwin has some real doll-head trauma!

2024-05-30 23:55:04 +0000 UTCIdk if someone's already mentioned this, but there's a costuming detail that makes the moment between Charles and Edwin towards the end of the episode even sweeter imo, so I'm gonna gush about it for a bit! Charles' hero color is red. So in the beginning of the show, the shirt he wears is bright red. Then, during the Devlin case, when he becomes stuck in the loop, his shirt changes to a deep burgundy to show that he's in a darker place mentally. It remains burgundy throughout all of episode 4 (both Crystal and Niko actually wear red in that episode as a symbolic gesture of support and solidarity, which I thought was really cool!), but at the end of it he is forced to relive his worst trauma by the Night Nurse, which leads to him lashing out at her and subsequently breaking down. And as a result of all that—as well as Crystal rejecting him in the beginning of this episode bc of what he did to the Night Nurse and how that triggers her own trauma with David; thus reinforcing Charles' fear that he is a bad and violent person—his shirt turns black, symbolizing that he's at his lowest. But when he breaks down to Edwin at the end of this episode and admits his greatest fear; that he's worried that deep down he's just like his dad, Edwin reassures him that "bad guys do not worry about being bad guys". And then he reaches out and straightens Charles' collar—revealing that the underside is red/burgundy—as he tells him "You, Charles Rowland, are the best person I know." And with those words Edwin gives Charles back both his hero color and his hope that he might be someone worthy of love. Anyway, sorry for the ramble, but I just thought that was such a sweet little extra detail in an already wonderful scene, and I just generally love how much thought was put into all the costuming in this show, so yeah!
