I finished watching your reaction not long ago and am currently watching a new series with Lee Dongsik's actor in it. It's hilarious that he is again partnered with an overly enthusiastic and naive guy there lol. Lee Dongsik's sassy persona kept barging into my mind while watching it lol.

2025-08-04 16:07:11 +0000 UTCI never thought the best friend maliciously killed her but they mentioned in one of the first episodes that he got spooked because he thought he ran over a deer. And then he had a breakdown and four years of psychotherapy with motherly instructions that it was not a human but only a deer, hence the obsession with the drawings. The father I suspected but for wrong reasons. There was always something shifty about him. But the best reveal for me was still to understand that Lee tried to lure out the killer after finding out who it was, which explains things he did and reactions. But That he was standing on top of her but of course could not hear her broke my heart. I never believed the serial killer killed Lee´s sister but after episode 11, I ask myself. Who was she running from? It looked like she had a bloody shirt in her hands.....so despite her death being caused by his friend by accident (maybe drunk)I think the real culprit could still be someone else. But otherwise I love me some twist and turns.

2022-12-05 10:33:19 +0000 UTCThere is so much I could say about this finale and about how much I loved it and how it went beyond my expectations even though I was already expecting so much because it's such an amazing show from beginning to end. And so I end up saying nothing. It's such a hard hitting end and so satisfying and it's genuinely beautiful that it ends on a hopeful note given that the shows' premise and tone throughout is so dark. Really was a product of love and dedication from the writers and the actors and staff and it shows. It won awards but I still believe it should have won more. So glad you enjoyed it as much as we did ♡

And now that he knows the truth I feel like he's both trying to atone for his father's actions but also for making Dongsik go through a rough time when he arrived and started flinging accusations at him and making people suspect him again. It was painful but so caring when he told Dongsik to stay still and not go though hell anymore cause he'll go in his stead. I think now that he really understands the pain Dongsik went though and now that he knows his father is the reason, he just wants to spare him any more pain. Joowon feels so much. I want to hold him and give him a vacation.

Han joowon and Lee dongsik both had very awful pasts in very different ways and to different degrees and I really need to hold them right now. And the end just gave us yet another type of hit when we see joo won desperately needing his father to confess but then breaking when he actually does say he caused the accident. The solidifying of that fact, it being put out into the world, was too much for him. Also, I can't believe we're almost to the end, it's been so nice reliving this whole show!

I thought it was hilarious that you said you had difficulty separating him from his character when I first saw him as a parody and I find it hard to not love him in anything he is in now.

2022-11-27 20:52:02 +0000 UTCAbsolutely with you on this show's handling of trauma. Like The Devil Judge, much as I love it, was melodrama. But Beyond Evil is something else entirely. It's so grounded and real in it's presentation and treatment of grief and tragedy that everything hits harder. This episode, and the monologue you pointed out really get to my thing about this show being about victims of crime and the grief of those left behind in the wake of violence. It's not how so many Crime shows, especially in the US, treat serial killers, with the focus on the killer and their twisted psyche. No, we got the serial killer and he was around for...what 15 minutes before he was wiped out. No, it's not about him, who cares he was shit. It's about the people who are hurt by the loss of those they love. It's about a community stricken, looking for meaning and hopefully recovery in the wake of violence. Anyway, I obviously have a lot of feelings about this.

2022-11-21 17:07:00 +0000 UTCI don't know if anyone has pointed out/explained nuances of using Korean names (I know you have a chat during these streams so someone may have explained it already) But I thought just incase you're not aware I'd explain it for you or anyone else watching who may not understand it. You can generally tell how close characters are based on how they refer to each other (sometimes subtitles ignore this so you may only pick up on some of this through the audio). Using Joo Won for example, Han is his surname, so begining from the pov of an acquaintance: he'd most likely be referred to as "Inspector Han", that's his 'official' title and the respectful way to call him (majority of characters in BE call him this). Characters who refer to him by name only ( "Han Joo Won" ) with no title can either be: people who know him more personally (eg. His father, Dong Sik) or people who are disregarding (usually disrespectfully) his rank (eg. Lee Chang-jin, Dong Sik). Then there's people who are OLDER than him who consider their relationship close, which call him Joo Won-ah (eg Kwon Hyuk), this is an immediate clue to the relationship Joo Won and his father have as his father doesn't calls him this. While a prime example of a close relationship is how Nam Sang Bae often calls Dong Sik "Dong Sik-ah" despite them not being related. The opposite to ending a name with "-ah" is "-shi", (Joo Won is a baby so Dong Sik has to be the example here) if a character YOUNGER were close to him they'd either call him "Dong Sik-shi" (eg. Jae-i, Min Jeong) or "Hyung" if it's a male saying it and they're close enough to be seen as an older sibling (eg. Jihun only ever calls him "DongSik Hyung" or just "hyung") This post is long but I just hope everyone watching this can understand the nuances of the language, because between Dong Sik and Joo Wons relationship changing over the course of the show, it's really reinforced by what the call each other. I didn't realise just how important this was until I was watching this with a friend who'd never seen a kdrama before

When it seems like he's talking to himself in the middle of conversations, it's actually in Russian, not Korean, but it sounds similar enough to an English ear that it's not sure obvious. Part of the implication is that he has Russian mob ties.

(we all have different experiences and therefore can interpret the same thing differently...) In my opinion:, I think the show have made one thing clear in the first two episodes (this is the firs time I watch it and I wont have opinion on the whole serie before I have watch the whole thing) is that you dont know where it is going with things and it is probably not what you think.... or of so you may have interpreted it wrong because you dont have acces to all information yet. Looking forward to see what happens next.

So to point out that it shares characteristics with that which it is commenting on is only just barely glimpsing the surface. Saying it's not for you is one thing but making a value judgement about it without having experienced it is basically everything wrong with internet discourse, IMO.

But for some reason it is not when its film/television. I think the reason is that I almost nothing I could watch then, but with books I can more easy find alterative swere all characters are well-written and multi-dimensional. I would thank you for helping me see the trop here, reflecting about it and my own actions regarding it, whick I haven't done before regarding film/tv. I like when people get me thinking and help me find new perspectives.

With a female character who is there for 5 seconds whose only purpose is to die. She's not written as a person to me, just a plot device. What makes it worse is how well written everyone else is, so I know the writer isn't leaning into a lazy misogynistic plot trope for lack of creativity. It's a choice. And I've seen that choice for decades and I don't want to watch it.

I accept the premise of the story, I was willing to handwave yet another story where the actor get to play a dramatic role being sad because a wife/girlfriend/sister/childhood friend gets fridged. That is the case here in Sweden that we have a (to some degree or another false) reputation of being quite progressive and have come a long way with gender equality . Old ( 2014) and not the best source by a long-show (Wikipedia) seems that least the statistic said that in South Korea more woman than men was murdered 2010 (but is almost fifty- fifty): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homicide_statistics_by_gender. But I understand and respect why you draw the line there. Hope you will find something that suits better from all that Britney reacts to.

Especially cause this one in particular was written/directed by women and has a very solid plot and resolution. That being said, I think it's a good thing you're looking out for yourself and if this show isn't for you, then that's just the way it is and I'm sure there's other good ones you'd like!!

Is Korean television still in the 90s in this way? It's really disappointing, I just don't want to watch a women and girl get introduced and then make a count down on how they will die horrifically so the male protagonist can have the sads. So I'm out on this one. Sigh. It was good other then that, but that's my limit and dealbreaker.
