Lol, when you finally said.....ah, I didnt mean Marius but Armand.....I had to laugh so hard but Marius is from the books. A very very old Vampire who guards the supposed Ancient Ones, First Ones....I do not remember correctly. I think he shows in Queen of the Damned...the book.....and later books......I love, in the books when Louis and Lestat finally have a proper reunion and Lestat pulls a stupid stunt and instead of being annoyed or disturbed, Louis just was mildly amused. That was my " they are back together again" moment.

The pivotal books being kept at a height that Louis can’t reach is a perfect example of how his resources are being controlled and edited. I’m guessing it was Armand who wiped memories from Daniel too back in the 70s. Louis has yet another controlling man. So maybe he intends this new interview as a sos call for Lestat to rescue him…as the way Jacob delivers that final line is not straightforward….it sounds very rehearsed just like the lines about him and Claudia going on their adventure. So many possibilities and threads to unravel! This series was delicious.

Because, 1 We are reading Claudia’s diary, 2 Lestast Never calls Louis Lou, 3 he never is dress full on black, 4 and he said “ I don’t want to keep fighting like this, I’m restraining myself “ or something like that. I don’t know, Lestat IS toxic, but I also think that Louis is trying to justify everything that Cloudia does, and blaming Lestat has always been his way o coping. The only time he is truly honest is when he is confessing in EP 1. I think they fought, but there is mising information. And finally the “ It would help me a great deal” when they were in the aire 💔💔💔, just broke me

But Lestat saying he’d never harm louis feels like it would be an integral part to his character no matter how many adaptations louis and Lestat go through. I’m confused why they’d take this turn in the series especially after it being advertised as a “gothic romance”. They added domestic abuse to a gothic romance that already had enough toxicity in the og source material. I’m just curious why. I think I still trust the writers to make it work somehow. Maybe certain scenes didn’t happen bc we know how unreliable our narrators are in the show.

But as soon as I read that Whites Only sign hung below him, my Spidey Sense - black woman addition went off. They didn't necessarily know it was Louis, but they would think it was a coloured person. I yelled at the screen: LOUIS YOU IDIOT! YOU KNOW IF THEY BLAME ONE, THEY'RE GONNA BLAME ALL OF US! 2022 - same thing. I see a news story about a horrific crime... every single black person says, "don't let them be black, don't let them be black, don't let them be black" over and over in our heads. Cause it's still there. One falls, we're all seen as guilty. Still... I loved this episode. I love this show.

And I appreciated that transforming into a vampire at least in episode one was nowhere near as gruesome as it was in the book. Or do they do that in episode two?

2022-10-06 02:56:06 +0000 UTCI am so freaking excited! So I am a huge Annie Rice fan from the time I was about 11 and found a copy of Interview with a Vampire in a trunk of my mother's books. Her rule was if I was old enough to be interested in, then I was old enough to read it - I received quite an interesting education from that trunk, I'll just say. But anyway, I was ADDICTED to Interview, and the Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned. and when the movie came out in the 90's I was so so so mad that Tom Cruise was cast as Lestat - you all had to be there but the black eyeliner vampire goths of the 90s were PISSED. I did end up liking the movie better than I thought I would but it was never how I really pictured Lestat and Louis. So this show came along and I was quietly hopeful but cautious. Watched the trailer and started to get excited. Watched the first episode and was freaking BLOWN AWAY. What they've done with Louis's character is how you do it! All it did was deepen the original story - the most important thing to me about Louis's origin was that he was Creole French. Making him black and having part of the story feature in Storyville, a place I've just learned about and been very interested in - PERFECTION. And the casting - more perfection! And so far, though I feel like Lestat is a very very hard character to get 'right', I'm really impressed with him too. And then to find that you're going to react to this one after I've been binging your Sense8 reactions is the cherry on the sundae. They've already thrown in so many things from the books that I did not expect, like Lestat's brief foray into wating to be a priest. Anne Rice was such a master of world building and I'm so glad the show's creators are honoring that. Can't wait to see more of this!

2022-10-05 04:45:18 +0000 UTCYesss!!! We were all shaking and crying and throwing up last thursday when this dropped early djdjdjd. We could not believe just how good it was. Bc we knew it would be good but not THIS good. Just want to let you know, as someone who has read the books and loves them, they are doing them justice, 100%. This show is a product of love, believe me. Everyone behind it loves this story and the characters so much and a lot of care has been put into creating it. Sam Reid, who plays Lestat, has been a fan of the books since he was a teen. He said this was a dream role for him, he LOVES and understands Lestat so perfectly. And Jacob Anderson who plays Louis, has said in multiple occasions that he sees himself in Louis. That he read the books for the first time right before they started shooting and just fell in love with them. Jacob has talked about his depression through his music (yes, he's a musician!!) and as we all know, Louis is chronically, eternally depressed. In the words of Jacob himself: “The whole book is so miserable, but I think actually it’s in [Louis’] misery, he’s sort of unpacking a type of grief that is essential to unpack, and that’s what keeps him going. He doesn’t just walk into the sun, and there’s something to be said for that. The endurance of a life, and what keeps you going? What makes you not just walk into the sun, in vampire terms?” And he is, hands down, the most accurate version of Louis you will ever see, he just Gets him. Oh and btw, they are basically taking from ALL the books in the Vampire Chronicles to present this story. There's lots of references you missed, like the one about the violinist Lestat mentions. He's referring to his former lover and friend, Nicolas. The story about wanting to be a priest and the stuff about his father and his mother, all true! I recommend reading them, it adds another layer of enjoyment to the show, makes it even more delicious. Oh and you probably already know this but I'm still gonna scream it: LESTAT IS CANONICALLY BISEXUAL 🎉🎉🎉💜 (In fact EVERY vampire in these books is some flavor of gay!) And this you might not know: THE SHOW GOT RENEWED FOR A SECOND SEASON!! Ok, I'll stop here but I could talk about the books and the show and the actors for hours lmao. And I humbly offer my knowledge on the books/show to you, if you have any questions <3 Alright, one final thing, are you going to wait for next week to watch episode two? Because it's already out 👀

The 90's movie was great, what else is there to add to that, I thought. But when I saw that you reacted to it, I gave it a chance, and wow, am I glad I did. This show is amazing. A+ on queer representation, but it is so much more than that. The story telling is quite good, I was glued to the screen. Amazing performances from the actors, and the cinematography was quite good too. I will be watching the rest of this show.
