First of all, I very much enjoy reading along with you for the n-th time. Secondly, yes when it comes to dialogue, TU is pretty faithful and main story is alright. Most changes were made bc of the consorship, some bc of the budget and others bc some characters in the book have less screen time then they maybe should. Also the pacing of the show was changed from reminising from time to time in the book to 30-episode long flashback. The book is much more of a detective story and I hope you will enjoy it as it is - I certainly did when I read it right after watching TU. And finally, I assume that 1) WWX is either oblivious bc he is WWX or 2) WWX has feelings for LWJ but he thinks it's just from his side and that LWJ hates his guts or 3) WWX has memory problems bc of trauma and not even being dead helped him remember things right.

This is my first time reading the novel in English, I'm surprised at how well translated it is. I thought the show was largely faithful to the book, much more so than most other book to TV/movie adaptations I've seen. Aside from the BL relationship being canon in the book, the main things I thought the adaptation changed were: adding the Wen clan/Yin Iron plotline, young WWX and LWJ's friendship/appreciation being more mutual, making WWX innocent of losing control by adding a second flute player and, making JGY and Su deliberately responsible for some of the disasters. Other than those, everything else didn't change the essence of the story imo.
