An absolute favorite. Some additional context is that this was part of launching a series of art shows as part of their tour. BTs wanted to support other artists and several MOTS7 2020 tour spots were supposed to have local art to go along, like here it’s as a European dance troupe that did their interpretation of this version of the song. This version was I believe released first. Sadly due to Covid no art events happened. They really do explore new ways to interpret ideas and art and losing the passion for art to a tier very few others have. The stage performance of this is stunning. The live shows they do a combo of the orchestra version and the MV song and it’s one of the most visually impactful things IMO. Glad you got to see this masterpiece.

this mv is my army origin story. i'm an artist and this mv in combination to the lyrics snapped me out of a 3year long heavy burnout like magic and made me to instant army back then... i connected it to the other songs on the album especially Shadow, Ego and ON. "i am the shadow, the shadow is me" "into my heart come answers from my most trusted only one hope, only one soul" "the shadow resembles me" as an artist it really hurts you on a very speacial level not to do your "thing" not many understand but when burn out hits you and fights you... and your heart doesnt beat the same way anymore it truely feels like the worst death. i looked at the clothed dancers as the shadows that burns you out, holding you away from what you truely love to do, but the blackswan in the dance doesn't just gets free, the most special moment is that fighting and running away from the shadows was not the solution only when the black swan started to synchronize eith the shadows the could truly work together and fly high. this switched something in my head. for the first time i felt being *understood* and my 3-year-old burnout was suddenly synchronizing with me and i started to enjoyed my passion fully ever since again ಥ_ಥ💜

Oh, I love that. For me, it’s felt like they’re in the Ego phase of their career for a while now but the Festa dinner brought on the reality that parts of them are still stuck in Black Swan.
I’ve become so accustomed to hearing them share their hardships after they’ve experienced some closure so the reality that these struggles have not been fully resolved stung. But like you said, they’ve accepted their shadows and they’re on their way to a better version of them.

For me the song doesn't hit differently now, the struggle is the same as it was back then. Actually, I think now they are over all their shadows, they embraced them. They have not lost their love for music.
This version is powerful, and the dance is a story on its own.

Hi Jim, so for me the main dancer is the black swan and the ones in black clothes r his shadows. The shadows r keeping him constrained and captive but once he gets to know how to conquer his own shadows , the shadows in the end helps him to uplift him and fly high…. ( which is the main theme of MOTS:7) Yes the dance in this is so powerful and this was the first music video that was released even before we got the original black swan song and MV. This was the introduction to black swan to the world and it was / is beautiful . Actually the promotion for MOTS:7 was very different and before release of the album there were 7 different arts projects collaborations released in different parts of the world with different arts and artists to promote art. And after that this MV was released and the original sound track. Loved ur reaction to this like always💜

Also, I just reread the comment and realized that the first part doesn’t make much sense 😅 Basically, the song doesn’t hit differently for me because I think their struggle is the same now as it was then. I don’t think that they’re struggling MORE now with that aspect of art and performance than they were when the song first came out. Does that make any more sense? Lol I don’t know😂

Personally, I don’t find that the song itself hits that much different even with the festa dinner and such. If anything, I feel that they are still in that internal struggle of fear that they’ll lose their love for performance and artistry. And as a way to kindle that love, they are going to branch out as individuals to do their own thing. So for me, it’s the ongoing struggle that every artist/performer feels throughout their life, and that aspect of Black Swan hasn’t changed from when the song first came out to now. The orchestral version is personally my fav, though I’m not a huge fan of the dance. It makes me feel rather uncomfortable which I guess is maybe the point? Sorry, I’m not great with this kind of art, though I do recognize that it IS art💜

To put it shortly I felt the same way as you about them making him want to conform to their way then he goes off to do his own thing and they chase him trying to stop him and make him conform but he refuses and at one point they stop fighting him and conform to his ways (when they start doing the same movements as him) and once they’re all on the same page that’s when he gets risen up.
In my opinion that is the perfect way to describe bts’ journey with society and the industry.
As someone else said they reacted to this and rm said that he was still trapped in the end and I remembering wondering how he could see it that way and feeling a little worried for him. The festa dinner brought those memories back and it makes even more sense now.

I’m sure the dream team has told you but the dance company doing this was part of a thing called Connect BTS where bts collaborated with people from all the different types of arts around the world. It was the coolest thing ever and kind of hard to fully explain what it was like, but sadly covid cut it short. 😕

When I originally saw the ending, I saw it as the swan finally flying away. I watched BTS reacting to this once after it came out and RM saw the ending as the swan having the illusion of flying away but being held back. BTS didn't know at the time this came out exactly what the story was and had to interpret it for themselves. I found it interesting that RM saw it that way.

Jim, I really enjoyed this, too, but it made me very sad for Namjoon. He wrote this (with other writers) in 2020. Based on what we learned at the Festa Dinnner, they were supposed to take a break that year and he was feeling trapped all that time. I just knew he wrote it even before I looked it up, it has his feelings (and maybe other members-7 swans) and style written all over it. The lyrics and the dance express such anguish, the push and pull. Brilliant. Made me cry.
