I'm in the process of reading Fredric Jameson's Political Unconscious, a fascinating book about narratives and the symbolic role they play in society. I'm going to be applying this text to my analysis of Disco Elysium. In the coming weeks, I'll be releasing all sorts of supplementary material; since the book is so dense, I'm thinking it would be nice to release an outline of its main points for my patrons. Later, I'll attempt to synthesize the broader points in a podcast. For the time being, I've included a word document containing a relatively short outline of the book's preface.
It increasingly seems as though my analysis of Disco Elysium is going to be a long term project. The game is so incredibly rich in terms of its subtext, and I want to do it justice. If I had to guess, I would say the writing portion will be finished within the next couple weeks, while the actual video will likely be complete by the end of May, or perhaps the beginning of June.
