The fact that the Slayers power comes from demon origins was hinted before. Back in season 5, Dracula told Buffy that her power was rooted in darkness, and he sensed that. That statement left Buffy kinda spooked throughout that whole season as she thought that she was losing her humanity and she had trouble getting close to people like Riley and her friends. Now in this episode, Buffy sees that Dracula wasn’t lying.
