+225 // Good Neighbors

Retiree Qui “Joe” Ke lived next door to Edward Lee Tudor in Holiday, FL for years. While Edward apparently saw Joe as a loner with an argumentative streak, Joe thought Edward was a cruel bully who was conspiring to destroy his life. As Joe sank deeper into his paranoia, he came up with a plan to stand up to his tormenter: one that would end in blood…

This one was extremely difficult to listen to, for me. I got flashbacks and deja vu’s all through the episode. On December 31st 2023, so just 4 months ago, me and my family were attacked in our home by a neighbour. Turns out, even though we used to hang out, help each other with stuff etc, just like your everyday friendly neighbours really, he was secretly having delusional and paranoid thoughts about us. This is documented and admitted by him so no legal issues. Luckily, we were not that physically hurt in the attack. I give thanks to the police woman who decided to try and take him on even though she was alone (with her police dog), because she saw as she was standing by waiting for back up that he was about to set our house on fire, so she couldn’t wait any longer. He then proceeded to attack her and her dog. I really thought we were all going to die. My kids, 1 and 2 years old, were extremely traumatized, so were the rest of us. As it was NYE, we had company over for dinner and games who unfortunately also had to endure that horrifying night together with us.. The neighbour was just sentenced few weeks ago. It’s gut wrenching to think that me and my family were about to become a ”true crime episode” ourselves. I’m just content that he is 1) genuinly remorseful, has apologized and didn’t appeal the conviction and 2) said he would sell the house so we wouldn’t have to worry about him when he eventually does get out of jail. But it’s all over for now and we can finally start our healing journey. Thanks for this episode. Again, it was difficult, yet so familiar. 🙏🏼

We do not speculate or pontificate on possible mental health connections or engage in arm-chair diagnoses/reflections for obvious legal reasons. You are not incorrect in your observation, however, we must run an intentionally objective line with regard to these cases based upon the information available at the time of writing and production.

How has no one mentioned that schizophrenia is hereditary??? This man very obviously had signs of auditory hallucinations and paranoid schizophrenia… Any good defense lawyer could have gotten that figured out. This is sad on so many levels… But I’m really surprised you guys didn’t talk about the mental health aspect of this entire case… In the end, you hinted at it, but still disappointing that you didn’t point out the facts behind this sad but so treatable condition
