Nothing to Lose (Part One)

18-year-old Corona, CA high school baseball prospect Brandon Willie Martin was signed by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2011 Major League draft. His talent and incredible promise was worth an estimated $860,000 cash signing bonus. But after signing the contract, renting a posh 6,700 square foot mansion, and hosting massive alcohol and drug fueled parties - something changed in Brandon. Over the next four years he would lose everything - including his freedom, after he was released early from an involuntary 72-hour emergency psychiatric hold.

Nothing to Lose (Part One)

Comments

Having a loved one with a severe illness like this is exhausting. It's a life sentence for them and for family. My family will never give up on my brother and we'll always keep pushing but god damn it's so much. My family hasn't felt like...peace? In years. I've had my brother arrested so many times, we've been in so many hospitals, so many ambulances. Nights where you're afraid to go to sleep because you wonder if you'll wake up to him standing at the foot of your bed. But then when he's sober and medicated and my real brother comes through...he's just the most amazing person in the world. Watching him suffer is just so painful.

This story has been stuck in my head and I was tired of waiting on part two, so I joined your Patreon as soon as I saw your tweet about part 2 being here. I love your podcast!
