A Tainted Rose for Nana | Patreon-Exclusive Blood On The Clocktower

In a quiet room of lace and tea,
Where sunlight danced through an ancient tree,
The grandmother sat, her heart aglow,
As her grandchild offered a crimson rose.

“How kind, my dear,” she softly spoke,
Her voice like whispers of the oak.
She cupped the rose with tender care,
Unaware of the venom lingering there.

The NRB crew has a thing they do (and I have not observed it in the groups I've played with) where some of them tend to believe they are drunk or poisoned if they're an information gathering role, and so they don't attempt to build anything off their information. We saw this with Sam a few games ago, and we saw it with Laurie in this game. (And while I can't think of specific examples, we see at least one person, sometimes multiple people in almost every game.) I get the paranoia about poisoning, but I feel like a more experienced group (although these guys are pretty experienced by now) is going to realize the odds of being poisoned or receiving false information are significantly lower than the odds of not being poisoned or receiving false information, especially in a script without a Vortox. At least my group treats all information as true until we get information that conflicts, at which point we work to determine what information is untrue. YMMV, but being paralyzed and doing nothing because you think your information is false is usually a worse decision than making assumptions based on the information you have and finding out later that it was false. Since if it turns out your information was true in the former case, you did nothing with it, and in the latter case you might have become a vital part of putting the game together. That said, it would have been hard to lose worse than they did today, so they might still have lost, even if they'd trusted their information, but I really feel like this is one of the biggest weaknesses of the NRB crew. And the game with Sam not believing his empath abilities DID cost them a game that probably should have been a quick win for the good team. (Evil had a much worse set up than you usually get.) Ah well. I still enjoy watching the games, even if this particular attitude frustrates me to see.

John

Mara-arty (Moriaty). Criminal mastermind.

Cakey

I deeply apologize to Ben Burns and the Pandemonium Institute (and Rosie's great scene work) - this game works better with the Discord interface. From a viewer perspective you get more info about the character and player. From a player perspective it seems you get more time to build a lie.

Le_ Porkchop_Express

The truly wild thing was good not executing Becca and Dom when they were being so suspicious.

Steve

SPOILER WARNING!! Fantastic episode! The ending was absolutely beautiful and very well deserved. I don't think I've seen a game where the lunatic is there to the end, still thinking they are the lunatic. The way it all could have been undone, too, was very gripping.

ElloryQueen

This needs to be on the main channel

Shaun Giles

As others have said, look up the dreaded Fiddler. It's not something a Demon ever wants to force the game into. - Ben

Blood on the Clocktower

Oh don't worry, we were well aware of what was going on. But in my experience, letting a Mutant live after breaking madness is often much more punishing than executing them and essentially proving them as legit. - Ben

Blood on the Clocktower

Dom bringing his Call of Cthulhu chops by driving Emily to question her sanity, I see. Best game in a long time. Spoilers below: Mara Joy is just so damn good at this game, god damn. Incredible win. Also, props to Becca. She did not sound confident playing evil but that was just the perfect assassin snipe. Really curious how the game would have played out if Sam See didn't volunteer as tribute. One of the most powerful roles in a town full of outsiders and he offed himself.

Chris Shaw

You would think with 2 ST at least one would do a bit of hovering around the mutant

Andrew Farmer

Great game, although I think there should be a bit of a gentleman’s agreement around madness. Not just cheat when the storytellers aren’t there.

David Hayter

https://wiki.bloodontheclocktower.com/Fiddler The gist of it is that in a stalemate (or if a game needs to end for other reasons like time constraints) the Storyteller can say "The Fiddler is in play". The Demon then chooses one player. The other players then vote on which is the Demon. It's not a Vote vote, so dead players can also freely vote on it. No other abilities work after Fiddler is declared (Slayer, Voudon, Artist, etc)

Ryan Winwood

Oh I have never seen that character. What does it do?

Kyle King

Also, if the game does get into a stalemate like that where no one is willing to kill, the storyteller can bring in the fabled character “fiddler” which will end the game

Aidan Something

I think this might be my favorite all-round game. Spoiler: With Sam on hos loosing streak constantly on the evil team, it was very satisfiyng for evil to get a real stumping of a game!

Lars Henrik Øberg

Great game! Well done everyone.

Tammy Driessen

This was a phenomenal game, one of the best ever on the channel. It’s been a while since we’ve seen such masterful gameplay by an evil team, and maybe the most successful Lunatic framing ever on the channel.

Will Seamon

One of the best episodes! EPIC

Stuart Reed

That was a masterclass by Mara.

Reece Hart

This was one of my favorite BotC episodes ever, wow it was so tense!!! Mara is incredible, and loving the new additions to the cast and Ken as co-storyteller!

Emm

Yeah kind of annoying lmao

Ryan

Imp's can absolutely sink kills into corpses. As to why he didn't, either 1) didn't think of it. Neither Ben nor Ken thought of it/mentioned it either during their talk about potential kills. or 2) it doesn't advance the game state in any way. It just causes a stalemate which would make for boring content until Demon or Town get bored and are forced to kill someone by Ben. Also, yeah, sinking kills to bluff Soldier is a fairly common play, I think. it's mentioned on the BOTC Imp wiki guide.

Ryan Winwood

Full disclosure, I'm not an expert, but from my understanding:

Ryan Winwood

This and the public game released on the same day really demonstrate a critical weakness in Laurie's playstyle: he tunnel visions so hard on *himself* convinced his info is getting messed with in some way that he undermines his ability to deduce the world as well as sowing mutual distrust with his neighbors. In this one late in the game he was believing it was a Pukka world with Holly as the Demon, a conclusion so far off the *real* Demon was hard-confirming Holly against him. If he had trusted his initial info and trusted his neighbors they could have formed a very powerful chain of confirmation and Town Voting Bloc (Laurie-Holly-Kirsty-Sully-Jon) that would've sent this game in an entirely different direction.

LeninsRage

Mutant breaking madness constantly.... Lol

Ray

What an absolutely brilliant game! Holly's accent and role definitely had me thinking i was watching the murder and mice season from dimension 20

hungbonka

So glad they've gone back to some simpler scripts so some of the newer players can get to grips with things. Great start to 2025

Andrew Farmer

Andrew Farmer

I love Holly she's so entertaining! But watching this I could swear she was drunk or high lol! Loved all the new people they were great. Side note, anyone in the comments know where I can get a homebrew script critiqued?

RyomenSaya

Super entertaining game! So many new people and they were all great.

Chris Jull

Spoiler Alert: Another reminder that Mara is way too underrated at this game

Electric Ninja

Poor Jon. Even when they r not drunk, they r poison.

MbtCancelByAllCommunitySoonCancelledByAllCommiteeSoonCancelByAllPlayersSoon

Absolutely love the cast for this episode! Delighted to see Becca, Briony, Kirsty and Emily along with all those wonderful regulars.

Paul Thomson

@ben I have a question 🙋🏻 not about this one Havnt watched it yet but about the one on YouTube today….. if you havnt watched stop reading now spoilers ………………….. When they were down to 4 players couldn’t Sam just decided to kill a corpse and stall the game out? Then that would have left all four players all with sus on them left forcing good to pick a 1/4 shot in the dark or the game would in theory never end? Also if that was allowed, in the in the future,…… let’s say Ken was the imp (bc I could see him doing this) … couldn’t he bluff soldier then wait till later in the game to the point where it would be dumb to kill a good player…. Kill a dead body in the night then the next day come out as the soldier and that the reason no one died was he was targeted?

Kyle King

I love watching these videos and seeing all the cats make an appearance.

Brittany Berglowe

Title made me think this was a reference to Nana the anime and I was so ready for the weirdest homebrew script ever conceived

Olivia

OMG, I had just finished catching up on all of the NRB BotC content this morning. And I was both loving all the fun shenanigans and regretting that there wasn't any more to watch. Then this drops! Here I go...

Jack Ruppert

I immediately thought Dom's "godfather" accent was "old Jewish New Yorker." 😂

Jordan Robertshaw-Jowett

Fist bumped the air so hard when I got that Patreon notification. Yay! :)
