Poll- Talking Heads, No Talking Heads, or Secret Option 3
Added 2023-07-05 16:00:07 +0000 UTCHi everyone!
As you know, BGC has had a bit of revamp since we got into the new studio, and one of the changes has been adding Talking Heads to the Uncut eps you get on Patreon.
We've seen some support for it, some against, so in the interest of lovely James only having to work on one format and not have his brain fall out, here's your options
1) No Talking Heads
2) Talking Heads, dotted throughout the episode
3) Talking Heads, put at the END of the episode in one big batch
Voting will run until Saturday and will take immediate effect in next week's BGC

Ah, I love democracy! Absolutely thrilled to see talking heads have won with a landslide. By all means, they’re not ALL gold, but finally Patreon videos will be a complete experience and no one will have to watch two 1 hour+ videos to get all the content. God knows I sometimes don’t have enough free time even to watch ONE ep from BGC in a single sitting. As I’ve seen others say, the handful of antis fast forwarding is clearly the path of least resistance. If that’s a dealbreaker for you, I’m admittedly a little baffled, but it’s your Patreon pledge, it’s up to you.

Other than once or twice, flubs haven’t really affected the videos, and they are bound to have issues playing 2-3 different games in a recording day, often for the first time for a lot of participants. It’s why it was so weird to me that people complain about breaking the flow of play.

2023-07-12 19:38:56 +0000 UTCGiven how vocal some members were about this, I’m pretty surprised how clear cut this was — only actually 10% really don’t want them in at all. Personally, I’m pretty glad they are in. I much prefer to watch the games without cut content, and there has been some absolute gold during that setup phases sometimes (Lifeboats immediately springs to mind), but I found myself missing the talking heads content so much that it was becoming increasingly rare for me to ever watch the uncut versions — especially on rewatch — these days. I get why some people feel as strongly about it as they do, but NRB has always — to me at least — felt like one of those channels where it’s more about the bits, and the personalities than it is about the gameplay itself. Not knocking you guys at all — I’m a patron of NRB and not them — but if you watch for the gameplay, others do it better. There is no shortage of rules flubs, sub-optimal play, and times where the gameplay takes a back seat to the bits that mean this isn’t really the channel for the best pure board game content. It always felt to me more in the mould of something like a spiritual successor to Wil Wheaton’s TableTop, and the talking heads content was always such a huge part of those, I think you lose out on some of the charm and laughs if you don’t have them. All in all, glad it’s gone the way it has, and wasn’t nearly as controversial or divisive as I feared it was going to be
