An alternate version of "Long Gregg" that I got this far into finishing before I stopped and asked myself: "does this make sense?"
Not that Greatures isn't fantastical and odd in its own way, but it has its own rules too. That's the part that keeps it grounded to a point, something I adored when done in Adventure Time or the like. And I never really introduced the concept that "Gregg" is whichever moleworm wears the glasses in the strip.
I wrote it in the character descriptions, and even showed that there are Other Moleworms in the labyrinth the strip takes place in, but Gregg's whole thing was never explicitly shown. YET. And when I realized that, this strip just kinda felt like an unfunny inside joke that falls flat at the last panel, which is famously the panel that needs the most juice. At this point, I was just gonna take the L, toss it, and move on.
But I showed some pals and at "John the Pal's" advice, I made it more goofy by making the long Gregg comically long, which is funnier visually and meant to me that there was less need of the walking sequence. To have the boys just move the glasses from one to the other was enough to keep the slight world/character building there is in Greatures afloat.
Thank goodness we saved it! I have an idea for a longer Gregg-focused arc I must get to soon. But it's crucial first to establish the glasses! The glasses make the Gregg! Ooh-la-la!
