This month, January 2023, will make it 10 years since the original "This is Fine" strip (simply titled "On Fire") was posted. 9 years since it took off as a meme. 7 years since the Kickstarter plush. And who knows what else, too much to remember.
My thoughts on the meme come and go and ebb and flow and change on a dime, depending on how annoyed I am that day. I should be so lucky to get to do all this for a living thanks to what it has become and helped me do, but it's hard to see the forest through the trees and it feels like I'm constantly lost in the woods anyway.
Which is why I need that break I mentioned. I need some time to try and figure out what's to be done about the trees. I will return to FOA. Comics Kingdom has given me the space to be different and weird (as long as I don't cuss so much) and I feel I owe them and you to be entertaining and maybe even funny. I've focused too much inward and need to pull out. There's always time to shoegaze later.
I'll be around here still, posting this and that. But there's other things that need my attention. My work on a show bible for a possible tv pitch for one. Working on book pitches and crowdfunders for work already done is another. Seeing if the fucking New Yorker has responded to any of my comic submissions!! It may be a break from the strip, but there's loads to do otherwise. Always something to do.
