Hello! Happy Holidays! They're all almost over, as is the year. And what a year. Whew! You know why, I know why. I just hope you're hanging in there and wanted to give you a look ahead into what's in store for myself and my work in the coming year.
As the year kept us all in our seats, I had to really think about where I wanted to go with my comics. I've had a shotgun blast kind of approach to it in the last 30-odd years of my life and tried a lot of different things. Now I'd like to narrow it down to something that could be a simple project that could last a while instead of stopping and dropping when I feel done. Hence "Funny Online Animals."
I had a concept of doing a silly animal strip in my back pocket since gunshow ended! Maybe you remember the treatment for a monthly comic I did way back when that had all these elements and more? But it stayed in my back pocket in a "for-emergencies-only" kinda way and well I guess the glass broke on the fire extinguisher and it just sprang into its own form. And I like the form! And other people do too! So I want to keep at it and let it grow along with me.
I've even got a simple website going for the strip. Check it out! But please don't share the link yet as it is still being worked on. It's very bare bones, and I kind of like that, especially in the age of sharing and social sites. Might keep it that way but with a little more info and such around it. That'll be this week's activity.
What about the other projects? BACK is at its end! The epilogue is coming and I know how it will go. Just gotta write. Pinocchio is still there. Used to really feel down on myself for leaving it behind so often, but I'm going to stop feeling bad about it.... Right now! Cus I want to finish it and I will. That is true to me, so I'm not going to push it.
Also going to look to get a complete collection made of "Little Comis," "Church Funnies," AND "F-Off™" in one big book, as those all feel spiritually connected in a pokemon evolution kind of way.
I was almost about to post that I was going to cancel "Me & You" but I changed my heart again and want to give this idea a proper send off. I have 3 issues worth of ideas left for it, but it will be not on any schedule and I won't print any more single issues of it. I still have boxes of 1 and 2 I thought I was gonna take to conventions this year and ha ha ha oh well. But 5 issues and I'll call it there. Hopefully it'll get whatever point I'm trying to make across in that time.
Also in the new year, I am finding a new thing to try with streaming! I know it may feel as passé as starting up a podcast, but so what! I like it! I'm doing it with friend Cohen and we're calling ourselves Gamewurms (bugs in our games, bugs in our brain). It'll be fun to attempt. We're not looking to fully monetize ourselves at the level of the more professional streamers, but it'll be a chance to work on some improv and banter with someone I've been playing games with, sans streaming (I played thru dark souls for them over psn and we've co-op'd bloodborne together).
Ideally, I'd like to whittle all the my comics stuff down to just FOA, while letting myself grow outside of my art. Streaming, being more active in a community, whatever else I could try is something I think I need alongside my work in comics. If that's one thing the year has taught me, is that I need something more to focus on in my life.
After I post this, I'm gonna turn and work on an FOA to post today for ya. So you aren't gonna get rid of me so soon! Thank you to all who've recently joined, been around a while, and even those who had to bounce. That you have supported me thru all this is still amazing and I am very grateful to have you as my audience. Be well ✌️
