Lacuna Rambles/Thoughts/Gif Reacts #4: Dragon Age References ⚔

In TFS: Book One, there are a few minor references to Dragon Age video games! Mainly in the form of a surname choice for the Returning Visitor (Amell) and then later on the mention of 'elfroot' if the MC remembers a childhood play date with J. Corvin. I tend to associate these DA nods with J because of the adventures (aka 'quests') the two of you had around the Corvin farm. Mrs. Corvin used to assign them to you both as a creative way to occupy time and come up with games considering the remoteness of the farmlands.💚🐉

Below is a choice option you'll encounter during the family dinner. (It's one of ten!) It has references to the titles in the Dragon Age series all wrapped up into one relatively seamless fill.

#Grow excited. "Ooh! I bet there are some of us playing Age of the Dragons."

James and Alina

Your excitement prompts you to sit on the very edge of the couch, hoping to get a peek at the albums. Mrs. Corvin must have a system for them—date, event, or theme. James is visibly less happy about this even after you lightly clink your spoons together like makeshift blades.

"Ooh! I bet there are some of us playing Age of the Dragons," you theorize, grinning. "It'll be fun to revisit the origins of our most epic quests."

"They didn't all end heroically," Alina points out with a teasing, accusatory glance at her mother. "She launched an inquisition after her shiniest sheet pan went missing for Jay's 'plate armor'"—Alina taps her brother's spoon to disarm him—"as if I had taken it and all of that silver duct tape."

"You watched the two of them like a hawk, so it was natural to question you," Mrs. Corvin says.

James's need to preemptively shut down this show-and-tell wanes as he studies your face, finally relenting with a nod. "Okay."

Jane and Alek

The second DA game didn't have a nifty name/title (it was just DA II rather than DA: Cool Word Here), so I went with 'Hawk' for 'Hawke', its player controlled character's surname. 😜

Comments

Loving the DA references! I chose the surname Amell for my visitor precisely for this reason 🥰

OMGG why is J not happy about the photo albums? Are they embarrassed or just find it hard to look at the old photos? Ive been going so feral over J all month its not even funny just thinking about what if mc wasnt with J the night of the house fire and home instead? J saved mc indirectly, change my mind lmao

Kimbo jimbo

I love this so much that now I need to play all three of them again
