Awareness battles with the warmth suffusing you on all sides, blunting the claws of fear that were digging in to startle you awake. Your eyes blearily open. Mal's unusual night light is on your side of the bed, glowing faintly in the space, except its bulb isn't traditionally shaped.

It appears crystalline, jagged edges lit from beneath so the added light diffuses through it.

Your swimming vision clarifies more slowly compared to your sense of touch. His arms are wrapped securely around you in a hug that's responsible for this warmth, coaxing you to melt into it. You turn into Mal, letting him soothingly stroke your cheek with his thumb, fingers resting lightly beneath your jaw to guide you to look at him.

"I'm here," he promises.

"Did you—?" Mal leaning in to softly kiss you interrupts your sleep-addled question while also providing a potential answer. He pulls back, pulling you close to him and encouraging you to lay your head back down.

You surrender to both him and sleep.
