Fey Ruins [30x40]

A quiet forest path. The sweet scent of spring and tang of ancient magics in the air. The party stumbles upon the stones of an old building. A shrine? Or the last remnants of a larger structure? Perhaps this is merely a relic to forgotten times; waiting for the day the forest finally reclaims the carved stones. Or perhaps there is more meaning in the location: a meeting place, sacred memorial space...etc etc. Or yet the stones may be an illusion to hide a grander outpost of magic and wonder.

Everyone loves a good mystery ruin. They're fairly classic to any adventure, and endless possibilities for narratives. I wanted to create a clearing or sorts with lots of perimeter cover for encounter tactics. There are a few vertical elements where characters and monsters can utilize the high ground for ambushes (or to escape ground aoes). My hope is that there is plenty of open combat space, with room to add in your own markers for pillars or other debris to create more opportunities for cover. Ideally, I could cover the entire map in really dense vegetation to get a sense of the forest reclaiming the space. Sadly, I was struggling a bit to have it read well from the bird's eye perspective. A tree's canopy might be massive, but the reality is that one 1 square might really be the actual line of sight cover...which is hard to depict without using transparency and layers. Something to workshop with my DM testers for future sets!
