Today's art stars Obelix and Fulliautomatix, characters from the French comic book Asterix, created by Albert Uderzo and RenΓ© Goscinny in 1959, based on the struggle of the Gallic people against the Roman Empire.
Asterix, the hero of the story, resides with his friends in a small Gallic village situated on a peninsula in Armorica, north of ancient Gaul. To resist Roman rule, the villagers rely on a magical potion that gives them superhuman strength, prepared by the druid Panoramix. The potion's power is temporary. The exception is Obelix, who accidentally fell into a cauldron filled with the potion as a baby, and from there permanently acquired super strength.
In this illustration, the Welsh giant has a good time with Fulliautomatix, the village blacksmith, who used the magic potion to withstand all the power of Obelix.
Fun fact: Asterix had four live-action movies and in all of them Obelix was played in the movies by actor Gerard Depardieu.
