There isn't a lot of personal motivation or involvement by the characters early on. It does get more exciting and personal later on, but a lot of the value is the questioning of what it means to be "human".

If your issue is with feeling like the main character is kind of boring, that might change for you in 2 episodes. If you're expecting an explanation on where parasite's come from...your not going to get it. What you got in the start where they are little eggs and are falling down. That's about all you get. I think the shows really good but if your still really bored by the next two eps, I'd guess its probably not for you. I don't think the world building or plot behind the parasites is going to improve much for you. The appeal of the show(this is my opinion ofc lol) comes more from shinichis character development by himself and with Migi. Also the ideals of the parasites and how they view humans or how they approach their situations. Anyways I enjoy the content, no hard feelings if you drop it lol.

I recently just watched this anime and in the beginning I had the same reaction. Like wtf was I watching but then it did get better.

every episode you've seen are the worst episodes of the show, episode 5 is when shit kicks off and there are big changes to certain things so dont lose interest just yet, its been a slow burn thats all

I personaly think, if this anime not exciting for you, u could swap with other one from recomendations :) i think anyone would agree with me. I mean whats the point of watching it, if story and everything else doesnt grab you :D
