0297 - Dan Horde
Added 2024-01-15 09:00:02 +0000 UTCA weird little detail of this episode is that we're going to see a fair few characters that are given full names, but only appear once. You've met the legendary Flash Baylor, now here's Dan Horde.
The interesting thing about Dan here is that he is voiced by Ken Levine, who also wrote this episode (and "Saturdays of Thunder" in season 3.) I know Levine's name better from his work on Cheers and Frasier (and as an occasional delightful podcast guest), but the key piece of trivia here is that he used to be a baseball announcer himself, making him perfect for this small cameo. Writers rarely make voiced cameos on the show, but the perfect alignment of subject matter and writer almost made it mandatory here.
Dan (and, indeed, Ken,) never appear again in the show, but Dan is semi-immortalised in Simpsons Comics #4, because the comics love a unneccessary-but-appreciated callback or reference:
