Remix Recommendations (March 2019)
Added 2019-03-12 16:18:48 +0000 UTCWe've hit another goal! And that means y'all have unlocked the first patron feed upgrade: remix sharing!
I have been a long-time follower of the video game music remixing community. They produce a ton of great music every month, much of it freely available. And I don't think a lot of their work gets nearly the amount of attention it deserves, so every now and then, I'd like to do a small write-up here sharing links to some of the best game music covers out there.
And since this is the very first of these remix posts, let's go big and post link to every remix I've featured in a New Frame Plus video so far!
HERE WE GO.

♫ “Jet Squid Radio”
by Dj CUTMAN
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkKzYwL5bq0
Dj CUTMAN is one of the hardest-working people in the entire scene, and you should follow his label, GameChops, immediately. This track comes off of Splatunes, an entire album of Splatoon remixes.
♫ “It’s-a-Me”
by Funk Fiction
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJHJP3iskJo
I adore this one. It's just so PEPPY.
♫ “Mark of the Beats”
by bLiNd
https://materiacollective.bandcamp.com/track/mark-of-the-beats
Final Fantasy VII is VERY popular source material in the game remixing community, especially if you followed it during its earlier years. But you won't hear THIS track covered often! And certainly not this well!
♫ “Ruby Catacombs”
by bLiNd
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INWAc4XerYE
bLiNd has been making game music remixes for like 18 years at this point. And thank goodness, because he's amazing at it. This comes from a Super Metroid album he produced called Chozo Legacy.
♫ “Aran”
by bLiNd
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNhtunZiWHo
Wow, I was really on a bLiNd kick in that Tracer episode, huh? Another track from that Chozo Legacy album (which you should get).
♫ “Requiem for a Damaged Spirit”
by Chimpazilla
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5MFd_ojq_c
Ocarina of Time is another game soundtrack you will hear covered A LOT. And can you blame them? I love the creativity of this arrangement, though. I'm always a fan of artists who take the source material and really make it their own.
♪ “Flash the Funk”
by Gecko Yamori
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXOi8pv1ALI
This track emerged from a competition in the OverClocked ReMix forums where a bunch of remixers claimed a robot master and "battled" tournament-style by going head-to-head with each other and making remixes featuring the melody of both their own robot's theme AND their opponent's. So this one is Gecko Yamori as Flash Man taking on whomever had claimed Ground Man (forgive me, it was a decade ago). The concept was VERY GOOD. I wish I could direct you to a more official link, but this track's become hard to find for some reason.
♪ Hang in There”
by YoshiBlade & KingTiger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaEN5-2i4qs
I love how darn chill this one is. Settle into some good Pilotwings 64, everyone.
♪ “High Tide”
by FoxyPanda
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMb4EbY6aH8
Also chill! And another favorite of mine. It's shown up in many a video. :)
♪ "Wooded Kingdom"
by Hyper Potions & James Landino
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLlUQ-q4u68
Hyper Potions and James Landino are amazing electronic artists INDIVIDUALLY, and here you get both of them at once! But for real, go look them both up and prepare for a wonderful time.
♪ "Wisdom"
by Ephixa ft. Will & Tim
Oh hey, Ocarina of Time again. Who'd have thought?
♪ "Mr. Game & watch me work it"
by Blubeatz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jiwH1BfaZA
On rare occasions, I won't be able to find the perfect track for a video in my remix collection and I'll have to go hunting the internet. This was one of my discoveries for the Mr. Game & Watch episode, and it delights me.
♪ "Chillin' with the Bros."
by Amphibious
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ2BFXK6BMs
Some of the folks at OCR produced an entire remix album for the 2014 Apex fighting game tournament, and something about the amount of work that went into this specific niche interest delights me to no end.
♪ "Gateway"
by chjolo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prW2yrK5Y8s
As a retired Final Fantasy XI player, you will hear me using this one in videos ALL THE TIME. Play this track near any FFXI veteran and you will see them be instantly transported. Guaranteed.
♪ "Game Over"
by Bknapp
https://bknapp.bandcamp.com/track/game-over
Ok, I need y'all to get to know Bknapp, one of my more recent discoveries. This guy has been making whole albums of lo-fi game beats for years. And they're great! Go peruse his Bandcamp and listen to all that good stuff.
♪ "8-Ball (Test Failed)"
by Dj CUTMAN
https://music.gamechops.com/track/8-ball-test-failed
Dj CUTMAN, too, been putting out a lot of great lo-fi hop hop beats recently. This one comes from the sequel to that Splatoon album I mentioned before: Splatunes 2! Get both of those albums, btw, they're fantastic.
♪ "Cave Remix"
by Bknapp
https://bknapp.bandcamp.com/track/cave-remix
More Bknapp beats! I'm going to be using a LOT of these in future videos.
♪ "The Master Sword Remix"
by Bknapp
https://bknapp.bandcamp.com/track/the-master-sword-remix
I can confirm that buying a bunch of Bknapp albums and leaving them ambiently playing in your home is incredibly chill and nice.
♪ "Chillin' in My Boat"
by Pokérus Project
https://pokerusproject.bandcamp.com/track/chillin-in-my-boat-seafolk-village-from-pok-mon-sun-moon
Huh, I've been leaning into chill hip hop beats in my videos a LOT lately. This one comes from an entire album of such beats, and they are all wonderful.
Welp, that's everything I've featured in a video so far! More to come. I hope y'all have enjoyed the tunes! I'll post another batch of remix links every month or so. Have a good one!

2019-03-12 19:49:50 +0000 UTCYou're the reason I discovered OCR years ago, when I kept hearing amazing tunes during episode credits and decided to follow them to the source. Since then, my own regular listening list has become some 25% OCR, with a sizable remainder going to those artists' original material and other remixes that aren't directly from that site. I look forward to seeing what else you'll lead me to.
