MOVIEHAUS QUESTIONS AND STUFF
Added 2025-01-06 02:43:11 +0000 UTCThanks so much to everyone who has come here for MOVIEHAUS! A bunch of people have questions and input and I first want to say that's very much welcome - I'm not 100% sure what to do about Patreon-ing this show so am very open to feedback and suggestions. Nothing is set in stone right now/I'm trying to figure out the best approach!
Some confusion about the first episode: I made it available to everyone at the $1 tier or higher just basically as a Christmas/NYE gift, but that won't be the case going forward. That was just a one-off for that episode. The GOING FORWARD PLAN is to have the full (unedited) show available for the Charizard tier, which will always be 1+ hour of content. The Charmeleon tier gets access to the private RSS audio version of the edited version of the show, so it acts like a podcast for you.
Now, some things:
1. I'm not sure what the correct balance for the public v private versions of the show is, but my THOUGHT was to have the public version just really stick to one topic, so whatever the title of the video is is exactly what that episode is about the whole way through. The Patreon version (Charizard) will have whatever tangents and extra topics that naturally come from us chatting for an hour. I feel like that works, but open to feedback! One thing I will stick to is that any overly negative takes we have will stay on Patreon/always be edited out of the public version.
2. There was a suggestion (relating to point 1) that I edit the public version FAR less, and we instead record EXTRA content just for Patreon. Is there a strong preference there?
My only issue with 2 is that I'm trying to strike a careful balance - I really want to pay Ryan, James, and Elyse fairly (ideally WELL rather than just 'fairly' - they aren't asking for this for the record, I just very much want to help my friends who all got laid off), while also wanting to maintain the love I have for just... talking to them about movies. We decided long ago with PWL that none of us would personally get paid for it, and I think the fact that it isn't 'work' is part of what has kept us so eager to do it for so many years. We just love talking to each other. Similarly for MovieHaus, I'm basically trying to avoid what I think a lot of us did suffer from at Funhaus, which is effectively podcast fatigue - if talking to your friends becomes a work thing/a chore, it hurts the product AND sort of defeats the purpose. So it's basically a 'I want to pay these people but not have this thing feel like work to them' which I understand is a weird goal, but I do feel strongly about that goal lol. I am flexible about the execution of said goal, just as long as we have fun making whatever we make.
3. Regarding the upload schedule - I am very much expecting 1-2 episodes per month, but as above, don't want to force them. I've seen some people say they can't justify supporting Patreon without a locked-in upload schedule, and this is totally fair, but I don't think I can change that particular one. We can really only record when we have movies to talk about.
That said: for people who are specifically fans of Funhaus that just aren't interested in the two other shows I'm making here (ok first, if you like films and funny people you'd probably enjoy Acting 101 at least - give it a shot!), there is a second show coming with Rahul and Jacob. It took me a while to figure out what that show will actually be, but I figured it out over the holidays, and I'm aiming to record the first episode later this month. That one will be posted monthly and have the exact same system as MovieHaus - very edited public version, extended Patreon version. You'd get MovieHaus and the Rahul/Jacob show for that same tier basically, COMING SOON.
There is technically ALSO a DND show coming featuring Rahul and Jacob (and two other guests + a DM I've avoided announcing), but we never hit the funding goal I had set for that on Patreon (back when goals existed on Patreon lol). I'd still like to make it, and supporting the Patreon here is the only way to realize that if it's a thing you're interested in! The reason it's currently too expensive for me is because I don't think it's worth doing without a proper studio setup/I'd have to rent a space and a small crew.
4. So far we just have one episode! I am totally open to growing this into a bigger thing and maybe if it gets some insane support we COULD do it weekly, but I do actively avoid looking at anything I do on the Play, Watch, Listen+ channel as a money venture. As a result, I don't have a great business plan to sell you, nor do I even have one myself. It genuinely is just 'creative people get together and talk about things and hopefully you enjoy it, while I get to pay artists, editors, and co-hosts'. The sky is the limit on what we can/will end up making out of LEGALLY DISTINCT MOVIEHAUS, but thus far, I have not thought beyond 'we get together and have fun talking about movies we like'.
SORRY I WRITE SO MUCH THANK YOU ALL FOR THE FEEDBACK VERY OPEN TO WHATEVER IDEAS YOU HAVE THANK U!!!

I think $10 is a good value for people that follow a few of the other shows too, but personally I am only interested in Moviehaus (full episodes) and 10$ for one episode per month is a bit rough for me right now. Maybe my finances will change and I can jump on later though, and by then there will hopefully be a long back catalog for me to enjoy also π

2025-01-08 11:32:18 +0000 UTCThis content was the one that finally tipped me over the edge to become a member. I had enjoyed the PWL and Acting 101 on YT, but needed that fix of the banter between the four of you in its extended version. We need more people to study and share in Ryan and his life, looking forward to you writing some biopic in 10-20 years time on Ryan's rise to become President :D.
