Sergio, do you mean HP-BH ?

Paul Stockley

Thank you for replying! I love your videos, great to see how you approach painting a miniature with the capibases and smoothing out with airbrush. Love the fact you don't focus on glazes and smoothness by brush but focus on use of right colours and placement of lights!

Jurre Stassen

I haven't used x20a. I mainly use Vallejo flow improver, airbrush thinner and water. I think they are all very similar. I have used an airbrush a long time in the past on larger RC model stuff and 2D art. I am just starting painting miniatures and really trying to improve my skills working with smaller models. A lot of people are afraid of the airbrush. The main problem is they don't practise the right way. I will post some tips I have found useful in the discord channel.

Thank you very much for commenting! I have a Iwata PD-BH, normally I always use the Tamiya, it works very well and I have not used another one. For the dilution in the paint, I pick it from the wet palette and add it to the mixture. ;)

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

thanks, Paul! Would there be a difference between Vallejo thinner and the Tamiya x20a thinner?

Jurre Stassen

From the video I can see he uses an Iwata hi-line HP-BH. If you want a slightly cheaper version without the MAC valve (for adjusting pressure on the airbrush) you could also use a Iwata (Performance Plus) HP-B Plus. The consistency will be much thinner than the capibases. Like milk. You just have to adjust it based on what the airbrush is doing. It will change depending on type of paint/ink and also humidity. You just have to experiment.

Hi Sergio! Maybe I missed it but I was wondering if you can elaborate a bit on the consistency of your paints when mixing it in the airbrush? Do you use the consistency like the capibases: paint with 1 or 2 drops of water? Do you just use the tamiya thinner or do you also use other mediums, such as paint flower or valejo thinner? Also, I can;t find it anymore.. which airbrush do you use? I am looking to buy my first one but I am not sure if all of them can be used like you do: 'spray paint' and 'spray air to dry the capibases and avoid spiders'? :D

Jurre Stassen

Let me see if I have pictures before of airbrush, if I have , sure , I'll post them!

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Yes, I'm going to try this out for gaming figures too.

Michael Klieman

Thanks for that. The way you use the airbrush is amazing. I never thought to use it to clean up blends--I mostly use it to base coat. I like your process though. Could you post a photo of the figure before you started with the airbrush? I know you have the Capibases pdf, but it would be interesting to see this one before the air brush too.

Michael Klieman

Ok thanks a lot, I will test it, it's amazing :)

HERVE sébastien

Yes , I'm a professional painter and I've painted around 800 28mm for Cmon with this technique. For example around 70% of miniatures for Son of Fire & ice ( game of thrones ) kickstarter campaign I painted on this way :)

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Thanks for this great vidéo: do you use the same technique (capibase and after airbrush blending) for miniature of 28 mm? Thanks

HERVE sébastien

Thank you , Carl , the next bonus video will be interesting too ... :)

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Thank you Damon! Ad you know , I'm working hard to bring you a easy experience to watch and understand, I'll continue focus on more tips to help all of you! :)

Sergio Calvo Miniatures

Fantastic video. A pleasure to watch you paint and very informative.

Carl Tees

Wow! That was great to watch. Very clear explanations. Going to try this out on what I’m working on.
