June Concept Art #2: Star Map

Second piece of concept art for the month is a rough draft of a star map showing where Tel'ruun and the main characters on Zerzura are in relation to the immediate area around them.

Although the Deva are an extremely advanced species in the galaxy, their power comes directly from their god-star Tel'ruun in the form of asteria. Think of asteria like a magical part of the electromagnetic spectrum that the Deva can only get from their star, but takes on different properties when its reflected off of the three moons around the Deva home world. Previously the Deva had never traveled outside their home system, losing power the further they get from Tel'ruun. 

You'll notice a few symbols on the map representing different Duchess characters who either are located in those places, or draw influence from them:

Zerzura is the world ship that Princess Claire'elene, her Entourage and the surviving 10 million Deva women escaped on after the Tzaraks invaded their homeworld, Mara. Currently Zerzura is orbiting a remote and uninhabited world with a single downed ship they explored in the Prologue.

As the Deva view stars as nascent gods, they see nebulae and black holes as corrupted deities and are the source of antiphon- asteria's badass daemonic grandma. Reva'czach is a daemonic god that eternally reaches out to grasp at Tel'ruun and was featured on the last page of the Prologue.

The Equusarians are an ancient space faring species that spans over a dozen star systems and hundreds of billions of inhabitants. Although aware of the Deva, they have kept their distance, enjoying a long period of stability and growth.

The Omegatec Derivatives are the frontier colonies of a loosely confederated robot people, slowly spreading across the galaxy. Using traditional technology, they have been able to make contact with all manner of distant and exotic aliens, exchanging media, technology and ideas.

Giving the Deva a wide berth, the Equusarians never settled near them. This gave way to a large, lawless territory that has been dominated by warring pirate clans populated by alien species from across the galaxy. Pirate Territory is filled with legendary fleets led by self-made sultanas, disgraced admirals and an endless supply of upstarts looking to make a name.
