Helpful Advice

I got this on Weasyl, which was literally surprise number one, because usually it's FA that has all the award-winning advice-givers and well-wishers and vampire assassin role-players and so on.
Second, it came from a brand new account with just the dumbest name possible- I won't give the specific account details, but if you were to guess it was something lol random like "Secret McDonald's Dollar Menu Access" you would not be that far off.
All that aside, he's not wrong.
I was thinking this to myself just last week how I've been doing LoJR for 7 years and I've only gotten halfway (maybe) into Issue 5; Kadath can churn out an entire book in a month, and I've seen Fluff-Kevlar and Scappo achieve similar results. And by themselves- though Kaylii does help out Kadath from time to time with inking, iirc (Kay, feel free to correct me).
In any given week, I'm spending three days working on Patreon stuff (which may include LoJR, the ATAs, the monthly waifu wallpaper and pin-up) and three days on commissions. That should give me plenty of time to work on everything but it doesn't seem to.
So, I guess what I'm asking is, most of you guys have seen me work on streams and stuff: does anyone have any tips or pointers or see any mistakes that I'm repeating? There's gotta be some way I'm making my life more difficult than it should be, and I just can't see it.
I have to say, it if your decision on what you wanna take higher priorities on, if you really wanna boost the comic in a way, you have to think about your time schedule and cancel something. You have to decide then, what is more important for you and what you could lower (like just one commission day instead of three or just a wallpaper instead of the full image machinary). YOU are the artist and it is YOUR decision.

Like I said, he was 12 or high. Or both XD But you are right- it does feel like it's taken a backseat. The point of me sharing all of this is because I want to see what I can do to get back on track with that. But heck yeah, please share your secrets crazy giraffe man.

Well, firstly, I can't even make out what that guy is saying b/c of all the typos and grammar issues. He’s also being incredibly rude, despite his denials of being critical of you.
For me though, what happened is that I shifted my focus to be comics first, and commissions second. It was a bit risky, but it was also a gradual thing. I've been building up these characters for roughly 12 years, and I only did the patreon thing about 3-4 years ago, and was able to shift to comic production as a result. Otherwise I would maybe get one 4-16 page comic done a year, and only then if I specifically saved up funds to take time off from commissions to dedicate to it.
I could be mistaken, but I think you spend most of your time doing commissions, and doing (highly detailed and complex) Ask pages, so LOJR may be a constant fixture of your updates, but it may feel like it’s taken a backseat to other priorities? Of course, do what pays the bills first and foremost. The fact that you’ve managed to keep this going for 7 years is pretty incredible, and shows a level of dedication only a few can manage.
I can show you my production style if you want, though my way of working may be too intensive for some.
So, I would say, if you want to shift your focus to comics, see if you can veer your productivity toward that :3

just flat out tell this mook "I appreciate your comments about the comic, but if you saw the time crunch I have every month, you'd understand a little bit more why the comic is very infrequent with new pages. IF you're one of those people that expect artist to put out specific content on a frequent basis then my content isn't for you." at the end of the day, its you doing what you do, not what someone wants you to do/ direct your bottom line.

First off, that guy is an ass hat, but if you really want to trim things up, you're gonna have to give up stuff like personal projects (animation, game concept work, appreciation months). You're one person, and there just isn't enough time to do the things that make you happy or interest you, AND keep twat waffles like that guy happy.
I've no desire to see you slave away, but if you truly wish to increase comic production, then you'll have give something up somewhere.
In stream, you'll have to refrain from showing us all the latest things that are making you laugh and smile, and talking with your friends and fellow artists. It'll have to be pure focus, no chit chat.
But on the bright side, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you fulfilled the fetishes and dreams of people who have never intended nor ever will intend to show you financial or emotional support.
For reals, ignore people like that. If you want to speed up comic production, do it because it's what you truly want. We'll back you up every step of the way, Yawg. To pick up speed on the comic, you're gonna have to make cuts elsewhere. Just make sure it's things you really can do without.

well again why not spend time on just sketching out the pages first? Just as teasers for the patreons. then spend time inking, coloring etc.

I'm not 100% fretting- but I'm also aware that sometimes I work stupid, and I think LoJR is becoming slower and slower. So I know some shit has to change, but I need someone to point at what I'm doing wrong and rub my nose in it and say THIS. THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE. DO THIS OTHER THING. And I'll be like okay cooll thanks bromide.

Dom, remember that video Sabro linked about that guy who spent ten years working on that one 30-page inked comic about living in Japan? I laughed so hard at that poor bastard working ten years on a comic. Then I realised THIS., And I cry.

Thing is I've asked them, and Kad's like "Oh I just sit down for a week and sketch everything out, and then spend the next 20 days colouring them in or I make Kaylii do it and go play Tomb Raider." What I'm hearing is that I need to have Kaylii move in.

I used to do that, but it's kinda fallen to the wayside because the ATAs and WoTM results usually get in mid-month, and those tend to take priority when I'm scrambling to finish them before months' end.

Well first off: never listen to any "advice" some would be art critic / troll / rpg vampire says. I doubt they've even managed to produce ONE or more product to sell themselves. So who are they to talk?
Second: I think you're doing good with your production. You're balancing out your mix of the comic, ATA, WotM pinups, and commissions along with your everyday life. The only thing I can think of would be, if you spent a month just focusing your energy to the comic. That would mean no pinups, ATAs or commissions for a month. Just focus on the comic. They don't even have to be finished pages, just sketch one out, move onto the next and so on. Then when you feel you're ready, finish the page.
Plus: You're doing this on your own. You don't have someone too help you with inks, colors, lettering or anything like that too speed it up. It's all you and your pace. Which is not a bad thing.
But in the end, it's all about what YOU want to do. If you feel like you can do better with your time, think about what ways you can manage it and your energy. Everyone has their own pace of doing things.
Besides, folks like Scappo, Kaylii and so on. They release short comics for publication, so they have those deadlines to crunch. Your LOJR is more for posting online for the followers and fans. As such, you're more flexible to your deadlines and crunch mode for a montly basis on patreon.
Anyway, I hope I was able to help out in some part.

Sit down, crank out another page or two- sketch wise. Then come back and ink and colour them. The glaring thing I'm missing that frankly irks Kay is that I have no script- I'm making it up as I go along. Maybe that?

And you've put out 11 pages in the last 11 months, so it seems that you're keeping pace with some of the other comics being made.

Mate, you have a ton on your plate with projects that take precedence over a comic that has been going on for a while.
Note that the artists you listed don't have as much stuff on their plate. They do maybe a few pieces (both their own and commissions), and then a comic. You do 5 different scheduled themed things (ATA, Monthly Waifu, your delving into animation, commissions and LoJR) with all the time going the first 4 (i'd say because they are new things and have a set time needed to be done). It's totally understandable, mate. Dont fret about it, I'd say.

What do they mean it shouldn't take 5 years? You're not a major publisher with a penciler, inker, colorist and letterer. Twokinds has done 1020 pages and it's taken Tom 15 years to do that.
