Side Effects

Here's a chin-scratcher from a recent Beta Update Notes post:

There are several comments in that thread, and another thread where folks are understandably looking for some clarity.  That clarity came in the form of this developer post:

So the way I interpret it, if you add an adornment to a gear piece, and the effect on that adornment is designed to drop when you remove the gear piece, then all other effects drop along with it. So you can still use the built-in effect without keeping the item equipped, as long as there are no adornments on the item that would cancel it.

I've gotten pretty used to using Gear Buff Macros for casting certain effects and then automatically swapping out the buff item with my "good" piece. This change seems to be designed with the new adornments in mind, and it makes sense in that context. But I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all shakes out with other buff items.

Those clicky items do not have equip in their right-click menu anymore, and that is deliberate. Last I knew, you could still drag and drop them onto the appropriate gear slot.

Thanks Deb. I was worried about the Fishbone Earring, master crafting cloaks, Earring of the Solstice, etc! They have a bunch of clicky gear that cant even be truely equipped any longer too. All the harvesting tools were like charms at one point. They’ve also broken a lot of clicky gear like the Boggstrutter’s Walking stick.

I was able to use my Fishbone Earring (in Beta) and the effect persisted after removal.
