October Waypoints

It is the direction and not the magnitude which is to be taken into consideration.

Thumbs Up

If you are a Darq Side member who uses Large and/or X-Large components, I believe all remaining L and XL thumb controls (for components that we modify) have been upscaled and published for you on the server. Larger slidebars need larger thumb controls, not only to see them more clearly but also to grab more easily with the mouse.

I posted a screenshot of the last five thumb control instances in the 2K-4K discussion on Discord, if you're curious. One of the perks for Fabled and Mythical members is the option to join the 2K-4K Discord channel. If you are in one of those tiers and would like to get in there, just poke me or Rosyposy and we'll be happy to do that for you. It's usually fairly quiet compared to the unrestricted channels, but I figure that must be because our 2K and 4K players are so darn happy with their UI. If you have questions or comments specific to the larger UI sizes, that's the place to be!

Buddy Up

Last month we teased two upcoming additions to the UI: Heroic Opportunities and a Nav Bar setup page. There's also been quite a bit of work on a third new feature that's been requested frequently: a Mercenary list in Inventory. I've discovered that Mercenaries are an odd beast, in that they aren't reported from Census in the same way as mounts, familiars, houses, etc. But nevertheless we do have a Mercenary list exclusively for Darq Side members coming in the next utility. I'll give you all the details when it goes live. Here's what it looks like right now:

Backing Up

Speaking of Mercenaries, last month I promised to take a hard look at the Mercenary window for those players who like to keep the window minimized at all times and also keep it positioned down near the bottom edge of the game window. After literally days of tinkering, with the help of chief we came to the conclusion that the Mercenary window would not benefit from any of the tested modifications.

You can choose to minimize the window on login for each of your characters, but the game takes control of the window in a way that makes it impossible to reliably reposition it that close to the bottom of the game window. This was one of those cases where the best change is no change.

Numbers Up

Oh those numbers just keep getting bigger in every corner of Norrath. Members found two more places where we're running up against the big-number wall that will get looked at in October. Tappar suggested that we should be able to convert plat values larger than 10K in the Commission Calculator, and I agree, as long as the code will allow it. I can't guarantee anything until I put some time into this one.

Also, Ayel pointed out what might be called a bug: the Large Plat Values feature won't work when mailing coin to another player in-game. You can mail plat using the standard keypad, but only up to about 10 million (9,999,999) at a time. I have a suspicion that the game might be forcing us to use the standard keypad here, since there are some pretty strict rules surrounding in-game mail. Using a custom means of inputting coin amounts, like Large Plat Values, might somehow be considered a potential exploit. Bug or undocumented security feature? We'll investigate during October.

Saddle Up

Here's a request that has been made many times. It's more complicated under the hood than it might seem, but I think our Darq Side members would appreciate having the option: assigning an appearance mount to mount presets. So if Mount Preset #2 is a flying mount, choose a flying mount to summon automatically in the appearance slot. This one may take some acrobatics to accomplish, but it's on the list and it will get some attention.

Looking Up

You may have noticed our monthly news post is now called Waypoints (thank you Rosyposy!) instead of What's Next. I think you'll agree it's much more on-brand. I can't let September get away from us without welcoming a bunch of brand new Darq Side members and expressing my sincere thanks to our established members for your continued patronage. It's because of you that we can do more, and I hope you are enjoying all of the members-only features, bells and whistles that come directly from your ideas and suggestions. When we say our members are part of the DarqUI project, we mean it. Thanks to you, things are indeed looking up!
