It looks like we just might make it to our 4K goal, and so I wanted to go ahead and start a discussion.
For our members who are as ready as I am to get started with the 4K project, here's how I'm thinking it should work. Based on past experience, I have a pretty good idea of how much time is needed to build, test and publish different hand-coded sizes of DarqUI (and default) components. I want you to have as much input as possible on which parts of the UI you consider to be most desirable to enlarge first.
And just to be clear, all Darq Side patrons will have access to the large and x-large components as they get built, and all patrons will be encouraged to comment and offer feedback. Fabled and Mythical tier patrons will have access to polls and can participate in decision-making about the 4K project.
By the way, there is nothing stopping us from making large versions of default UI pieces that DarqUI does not currently modify. In fact, the most recent version of the utility has new code to accommodate that scenario if it needs to happen.
There are about 71 DarqUI-modified components (and about 50 help files) that occupy a visible surface within the UI. (Files we don't count include themes, spell suggestions, font styles, skin info file and chat log filters.) The help files are considered one file since the text sizes can probably be enlarged with a single CSS control file.
26 of those 71 components already have a large version
4 of those 26 components also have an x-large version
6 of the 71 components only have one size, but are designed to be used comfortably at higher resolutions:
I think the most fair way for members to decide is through a poll, where I offer several one- two- or three-component packages to choose from. I'm thinking one week to give participating members a chance to vote, two weeks to build and publish preliminary large/x-large versions of the files that you selected, and then one week for members to download the "final" files and offer comments and feedback which will be responded to during the final week. After that, we go back and vote on another package and do it all over again.
Some windows are just massive and extremely complex, and I'm looking forward to the challenge of upsizing the big important windows like Experience, Group, Quest Journal and the like. But to make sure I don't over-promise and under-deliver, I'm going to say these will need to be focused on by themselves. There are a lot of simpler windows that are just as important to the UI, but I think we can tackle more than one of those at a time.
I'll post our first poll, hopefully soon when we reach our membership goal, but it's probably going to look something like this:
Option 1:
Experience Window
Option 2:
Stat Monitor
Target Window
Implied Target Window
Option 3:
Raid Window
Bank
Option 4:
Player Window
Extended Player Window
Clock
Compass
Let me know what you think about the overall ideas, either here or in Discord. I'd also like to hear from you: Which parts of the default UI (that DarqUI does not modify) do you consider to be important to upsize?
