He slung Sato like a sack of potatoes—one of the better finishes this basho.

2025-01-25 06:33:08 +0000 UTCSpot on commentary, Jason—well said. You formed the thoughts I had in my head with perfect clarity. Hakuoho seemed set on the same path when he didn’t even have enough hair for his chonmage but injury stopped him. A good baseball analogy fits here as well, which obviously plays into the Japanese aesthetic: Sato is like an ace pitcher that the lineup has seen in a couple of innings, they start picking up on his delivery and pitch selection by making contact, getting hits and driving in runs. I’m excited to see how he responds and if he has some more pitches to throw.

2025-01-25 06:31:35 +0000 UTCI would have thought that this match-up would have happened this weekend! A spirited, relatively quick and definitive bout with a less than common kimarite used!

2025-01-24 18:52:26 +0000 UTCOzeki: the school for Yokozunahood. Fascinating to watch the top talents of the sport undertake exam after exam in a bid for immortality

2025-01-24 16:50:32 +0000 UTCOno def needs to level up his game. It’s one dimensional. I don’t really see him grab the mewashi. Oh well good win for Hoshoryu. I like how Hoshoryu attempted to go head to head with Ono at first but reverted back to his judo style throw which is one’s weakness.

2025-01-24 16:47:07 +0000 UTCOnosato getting Yokozuna too early would be bad for him. Imagine he burned his way to the tippy top then got figured out… he would perform as a lackluster Yokozuna. I’m sure he’d disagree since getting Yokozuna is kind of the end game, but his career would be short lived if he tossed up 8-7 or even 9-6 each basho.

2025-01-24 15:53:21 +0000 UTCHoshoryu's legwork on those throws is always amazing! He pivots on one leg, while the other strikes upward and takes out the opposing leg!
