It’s the power. Tachi-ai is 90% brute strength with 10% technique. You can master technique but that power is a birth right. I believe Takerufuji’s push charge is something we have never witnessed before.

2024-09-21 17:37:54 +0000 UTCI feel like the tachiai has a big paper-rock-scissors type element to it, so I think it is "he didn't expect that strategy". Shishi was going for either a front or side belt grip right out of the tachiai, but Takerufuji's mid-chest push nullified it by locking his arms out first. I have to imagine rikishi strategize and strategize over their tachiai options.
