The Art of Mouseflower Zine Submissions [WIP]

I'm not sure if I mentioned anywhere just yet, but I'm apart of a zine called The Art of Mouseflower ! A zine filled with artwork depicting the theme of fantasy-medieval animals, similar in theme to Reynard the Fox, Redwall, or Mouseguard! I have two pages in the book that'll be produced and funded through Kickstarter later this month! Mine will feature a  mysterious traveling Eurasian lynx bard and a sly fortune teller vixen, which can be seen as WIPs above!  

I'm surprised with how much I initially struggled with this! Applying to be in the zine, I had a head FULL of ideas for it. But actually sitting down to draw today..my head was empty! It doesn't help that I also lost track of time and realized the due date was coming up quicker than I thought (for only once piece, thankfully. Just to be used as an advertisement in the kickstarter), but I just couldn't decide with what to go with! Thankfully the zine runners do have a discord set up for all the artists, so I was able to take a good peek at what everyone was planning to submit, and I think I went in the right direction with mine! No wildcats (yet) and Eurasian lynx WERE native to the UK years ago (and from my research, are trying to reintroduce them back..farmers aren't helping with the ease of that process though..) and I haven't seen too many foxes just yet, let alone vixens, so I figured I'd go with those two species.

As for who they are, I wanted to go with occupations that don't involve swords, daggers and shields. I figured the zine will be filled with plenty of that so I wanted to try my hand at something else for these two! I LOVE (and can relate) to bards in a medieval setting, and having a happy lynx singing a song while travelling seemed like the way to go! In the Redwall universe, most cats are depicted as villains, but I see my guy as a good guy. A jolly wanderer singing down his path to who knows where! 

For the vixen, I did some more research and found out that they're normally portrayed as healers or seers in the Redwall universe. I've done a fortune telling fox in the past in my Inktober series this past October and wanted to bring that up again <3 I just love that combo! Foxes are also normally portrayed as villains...but I wouldn't say this lady is particularly evil. I see her as more of a swing both ways type of character. She could do some good, but maybe some bad too..who knows. She's definitely a solo traveler as well, but likely wouldn't cross paths with my lynx bard :P 

So that's it for now! I'm going to try and get one done before the due date on Saturday, if not, the WIP will be accepted. I'll likely post these on patreon first when they're both done, and post them publicly when the zine releases to the public in April (: (Would like to keep it a surprise for most folks!)
