Someone New Has Arrived [Final WIP]

The last WIP I sent off to the client before I finished off this piece!

Still not QUITE familiar with the process to take on full illustrated backgrounds, since I don't draw them often, but this seemed to work well! Once the sketch was approved, I went ahead and sketched in the characters a bit more, and started lying down a rough colour of the background. After that I inked the characters, then went back to the background and started refining it. The background was completely done on one layer since I find its easier that way, haha. I treat it like painting a traditional painting (:

Once the background was done, I filled in the flat colours on the characters and shaded them too! Once ALL of that was finished, I began playing around with texture and filter overlays to unify the entire drawing. Adding some little details here and there like water droplets on the wet fur of the characters, and added a bit of line work to the background too. That was more of a stylistic choice, but I noticed that it did help unify the characters into the background a little more to.

So yeah! That was the process on that piece! It was fun, and this commission allowed me to experiment too, which was nice! I'm happy with the result..especially considering backgrounds aren't generally my specialty, haha!
