Hello everyone! Jasonafex here. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years holiday with lots of love, joy and hopefully a sprinkle of furry delights on your internet journey.

As you may be able to tell by the vibrant pastel colors and heavy synth echoing around the Patreon that there is a shift in direction on our official developer channels. While Bare Backstreets has been a game I have been deeply dedicated to working on for the past several years of my life, 2024 was the last year I could allow myself and our team to work on the game. Baxter was scheduled a Christmas release, then New Years, and finally the 10th of January. You can get an idea of where things were going as the games completion drifted further back into the year. I had to make the difficult decision to cancel the project regardless of the state of completion of the game as the speed of progression is something I've grown deeply unhappy with. No matter what, 2025 was going to the a year of new horizons.

Regardless of how much of an income I make from my endevours, I long to create. I want to write, build worlds, interact with our fans and make content regularly. A great deal of my happiness comes from my work and my fingers have been itching for the past decade to create another dating game experience. Both myself and my partner Kabs have learned so many new skills from our first try at making Amorous, we are excited to create a project from scratch, keep the scope of our team small and deliver an experience that has been in demand for years.

March is our deadline for a prototype of the game that includes the base character creator, single date path and an early version of the overworld. We have been quietly working on assets while waiting for BBS, including hundreds of customization options, mocap animations and a full soundtrack. We will be revamping our discord server and socials to show our progress on a bi-weekly basis. While I don't want to give away too much as to what you'll expect to see in the sequel, small teasers will be shared now and then :)

Sometimes you gotta take a break from a project to get some fresh eyes on it later, BBS looks cool but excited to see Amorous 2. Been a fan since like 2015 lol hope to see content from ya, fairly new to the Patreon but don't let the negative comments put you in a rut πŸ‘ This project could help with a reworked BBS down the road by developing new skills and tricks. - For the backend they might need to use some older tools or figure out some ways to allow the dependencies to run on Windows 7. - With the 3D models, you could try and use baked-in lighting and shading like earlier titles. It'll allow for less graphics strain but improved visuals. A great example is Olivia by FunSizedThought. - I don't know how you plan to make this game, so if it's anything like the original, you could get away with minimal rendering by only modelling the front of each character, kinda like in the video. - I'm excited to see how this blend of 3D and 2D will turn out!

Personally, if you are unhappy with the project it's good that you decided to do something new and refreshing, I also had to cancel some projects because I got burned out and no longer felt like continuing, I do wonder will BBS be giving to someone that might want to keep working on it like a team who is passionate, or maybe some fans? Happy to see a new amorous, but I do wonder is it also going to be free [like the original was on Steam] also the AI I do like AI it's interesting but of course, I hope the characters are going to be made 3d (like you said in the comments) I'm happy you found a new passion and can't wait to see what the game will become

Koyyle released Baxter today and has re-affirmed he's going to get the game finished on the side while we work on the next game. This post was mainly for my own sanity as I was feeling less productive in my role as a front-end art director.

I know the potential for modding, I am a big support of modding myself and we have created mods for many games. I fully intend to design the game to be moddable from the ground up!

no way i just subscribe for bbs .... i played this game with free code for v0.7.3. i loved this game so this is why i paid patreon. but for that ? erf. xD dude bbs need to be finish. it's a good game

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but this sounds to me like y'all ARE planning on releasing the Baxter update before full-on abandoning the game? Just that it's more on the back burner compared to Amorous 2 taking the spotlight? I'm hopeful that this is the case but I'm genuinely unsure if I'm reading too far into this or not.

So BBS is being canceled then is the gist I'm getting. Guess I'll just be revoking my funding, because that's been the only reason I was ever subscribed all these years. Despite all the headaches of getting it to run or the endless bugs and crashes, I liked the game, so that really sucks to see it just abruptly get canned without any fanfare or official announcement. Very least hope this means when Baxter is released, it'll be a free update because it sounds like a lot of people feel the way I do about this news and would miss out on that update if it's still paywalled.

Hello. I am also disappointed that BBS development is not finished. But I know that these kind of projects on Patreon are not done by a full team of developers working 5 days a week. It is almost always just a few people doing their best. For this reason, I understand why, after 6 years, you consider that you are done with this project. For Amorous 2, I wish you the best. You always have my support.

I understand your frustrations and they are valid. Funding did go into BBS throughout it's development cycle, as evident by how much art assets are finished. Every month we worked on the game, expectations and hope was that it would be finished. The games scope was perpertually pitched to me on the back-end as "Just a couple more weeks!" until the newest, big content release could go live, but then it never came. I would recieve examples of content working in the live scene, but then it would not compile. New programers would brought onto the project semi-regularly, scoffing at the remaining scope with an air of triviality, but the due dates came and went and no noteworthy progress made. This time last year, I was pitched a completion for around March of 2024, now the same sentiment is made for March 2025, eventually you have to take note of the pattern and deduce that BBS has incured technical debt on the back-end and programmers are struggling to keep up ahead of it. Ultimately, games of this scope require more then one developer. I am a designer first and foremost and I thrive in a front-end enviroment. Part of the reason I'm returning the Patreon's direction to dating games, is because the programming demand is much lower, meaning there is less of a reliance on third parties to meet our demand. You may still see Baxter released for BBS, but It's at the discretion of Koyyle, the lead programmer. Assets are finished, he's fully voiced and animated so all we can do is wait. Currently, he's still having trouble compiling his build. In the mean time, we want to get back to work and it's more likely our efforts are going to see the light of day on a fresh project.

The game will be primarily focused on 3D assets, this is just a placeholder teaser as I needed to replace the BBS Youtube video. A better, more fleshed out trailer will come as it becomes gameplay ready.

We are equally disheartened to create all of his sprites and sex animations but not see him released. Koylle, our BBS programmer is still trying to get the build to compile behind the scenes and has been payed with the expectation of his release in December. Since it's past deadline, the task of compiling the game has been moved over to a laptop so it doesn't disrupt our ability to work within Unity.

I'm sorry that the game isn't getting finished. It's best case scenario, is I can afford to have it remade on the back-end from scratch if Amorous 2 blows up, but in it's current state it's become a sunk cost fallacy. I hope that over-time, our new dating game is something that perks your interest. We should be able to get out content a lot quicker because we are starting with 0 technical debt.

All year progress of bare backstreets has been posted and development of Baxter. I’m so happy to hear that my money has been going to you for something that is not going to be realised. This is a decision you would have known about long before now, and the fact that you are not going to finish what you started is not a good look at all. You’ve essentially taken money under false pre-tenses and are not delivering. Shameful. I am revoking my Patreon now, as I would be very surprised to see any finished product of any kind no matter what you post/tease.

- Backwards compatability would be a back-end question. I can request from our team to design the game from the start to support older hardware. - There will be 3D assets so the game will be more intense, though we will try to avoid rendering too much at once (a couple of models max at a time) and we will simplifiy the backgrounds. - The goal of the character creator is that anyone can make their sona and add them to the game. You can use these saves as the player character, or to modify and replace side characters. - The gameplay will be primarily centered around 3D models and 2D assets made by my wife. If anything AI is present like this teaser, it's most likely a placeholder. - I've had the better part of a decade to think of a sequel. It will be a mix of old and new ideas. Some story beats will return, but the experience as a whole will be a new adventure.

Got some questions, some silly, others serious. - Are you planning support for older versions of Windows such as 7 or 8.1, or will this be a "modern" Win10 min. title? - Will the graphics be more intense? I'm hoping to be able to run this game on low-end hardware. - How much to have a personal character added to the game? Would you even allow that, or will you be reusing the old characters? - Will AI be incorporated into the design / production flow? I'm not a big fan of AI, and I'm sure some folks here aren't either. - How much of a major step will this be? Is it just going to be a refresh with what you've learned, or will everything be completely new story?

Wait, not even releasing Baxter before abandoning BBS? :'( Very sad, wanted the wolf/dog boi at very very least, before moving on to a new project. After all so much work went into creating his animations and such, it feels like a waste to not at least finish his implementation before moving on to Amorous 2. I yearn for a new male character in BBS and have been waiting for Baxter for a long while now :'(

Our Patreon originated with Amorous 1, BBS was a side project that was off and on. It officially became the main project after Amorous hit steam, and it's been in development for 5-6 years. It was never cancelled, it has been reworked many times with multiple lead developers, essentially devleopment hell. 2025 was my hard cutoff for working on the game. I'm not happy that it is not getting finished, as ultimately a lack of a steam release hurts our income, but I'm disssatisfied with it's progression on the back-end and I feel our artistic efforts is better spent on something new. It's been a sentiment I have had for quite some time now as it was effecting my happiness. At the end of the day, making furry games is a passion of mine and I want to rekindle my enthusaism for game development by getting to have more active contributions each week.

It's unlikely a goo creature will be a default date option, but shaders and color options to emulate a latex or metaliic look should not be hard for the character creator.

As much as I want to see BBS finished, it was originally intended to be a 2 year endevour. We are now entering the 6th year of development without a clear completion horizon, and that's cutting into my life quality at that point. The time and money is better spent on something more productive and ultimately, it means we can deliver content working from a flesh slate. BBS will likely need to be remade from scratch and we would rather invest that into a new game.

so in other words, BBS is canceled...for the second time. Despite it being the original focus of the patreon before Amorous and then the sole focus of the patreon for quite a while now. That is....not a great look, honestly.
