AM(A)A!
Added 2023-09-11 11:30:24 +0000 UTCMaybe this post will fall totally flat, and if so, that's cool. I've had enough cringe-enducing moments in my life to take another one in my stride! But ...
I figured it'd be fun to do a kind of rolling AMA (ask me anything) style q&a here. The extra A (in brackets) stands for 'almost', meaning if you ask something so insanely personal that I don't feel like answering, I reserve the right not to. But, I'm a (pretty) open book, and maybe there's some nagging thing you'd like to ask me about Girl Games or, well, whatever.
I guess I'm mainly posting this because, if there's someone who's making a thing I enjoy (and I assume you must kinda enjoy Girl Games if you're here, right?!), then I always want to ask a million questions. Maybe it's to do with coding, maybe it's to do with how many hours a day I work on the game, maybe it's something totally ridiculous. But yeah, if there's anything you do wanna ask, now's the time to do it!! Just drop your question in the comments and I'll check back and try to answer as soon as I see it. :)
And if this post gathers nothing but tumbleweeds in like, 48 hours, then I also reserve the right to delete it and never mention it again haha. x

Absolutely! I can't remember exactly how I stumbled onto TFGames, but back in 2018 I remember having my mind blown at the realization that there were a ton of transformation/feminization games. Since about 2012 I'd been publishing ebooks on Amazon - shorts, novellas - on the exact same subject, and as a kid I loved 'choose your own adventure' books, so the 2+2 lightbulb moment struck, and suddenly I HAD to try and make one of my own. I love fiction writing, but the idea of making a text-heavy narrative game and exploring multiple paths was simply too delicious to resist, which led me to fooling around with Twine (the engine that most of the games on that site seemed to use), and taking my first steps into the world of game-making and programming. In terms of games that I played back then and that influenced me. Well, I remember just diving in and playing a ton, slowly getting a feel for the way they worked, and the ones that stood out (and probably went some way to influencing how I set about making Girl Games) were the 'big hitters' - The Company (I really liked the way you could move around the different locations, Friends of Mine (for basically the same reason), and also Female Agent (for the paperdoll/dressup elements!). As soon as I set eyes on Female Agent, I just knew I needed to have a similar paperdoll style dressup element, as - I don't know whether you've guessed yet, lol - that's one of my absolute core loves and I just desperately wanted it to be a huge part of Girl Games, too. One thing that didn't gel with me and those games listed, and this is not a negative exactly, just a stylistic choice, but I found that i really didnt' like the way the text kind of scrolled off the screen (at least in the case of the first two, and with Female Agent, the way to advance to the next screen is also just a hyperlink within the text, which I wasn't keen on). So I began fooling around more and more with my own game, trying to make it look EXACTLY how i wanted, and ... well, that's what eventually led me to where I am now. Still chipping away at it, two game engines down the line, lol. Sorry, I kinda went off track there! but yeah, apart from those games, I also just always loved stuff like old lucas arts point-and-click and Stardew Valley - games where you can bumble around, explore, interract with the npcs. And hopefully Girl Games has a little of that feeling too. :)

2023-09-11 15:14:18 +0000 UTCWere there any other games that you’d say have inspired you while making girl games or that influenced the development of girl games? Or just generally what other games in this genre have you really enjoyed?

2023-09-11 13:32:34 +0000 UTCThanks so much for breaking the silence! Maybe it's a little like one of those Q&A's where nobody in the audience wants to be the first one to ask a question, haha. And glad you're enjoying the game so far! I've got today off work and I've been going hard on the Chapter Three Jennifer event and lets just say, this one's gonna be pretty wild when its done :)
