April Update ...

So here I am sliding in just under the wire to let you all know how things are coming along with Version 0.4.2 and why it's still not done yet (I know, I know!). Trust me, if I could shake a magic stick I'd ... Well, I'd do a heck of a lot of things, but one of them would be to get this game finished, or at least in the polished, finished, fun-to-play state it is in my head. 

So what's taken me so long and why the delay? I'll get onto that in just a moment, I swear, but first I want to say sorry for making promises and then breaking them. Each time I write something like "It'll be two weeks!" or whatever, that just becomes a source of stress for me and - I'm sure - a source of frustration for you when it doesn't work out how I hoped. Don't get me wrong, I'm still working every chance I can on the game, but I'm having to juggle work and real life commitments too, plus I'm a total unshakeable optimist, so when I say "it'll be two weeks" I really do mean it - and then ... yeah. 

Anyway, here's the reason things have dragged a little. On my Trello "To do" board, where I'm keeping track of everything that's needed to get this latest update where I want it to be, there were a bunch of items all on the same theme: 

Now, the way I've been approaching the game currently, to add in each of those scenes, I'd have to actually write them out as complete cut scene/quests, plot out the beats of each one, and once you'd experienced it once, that would be that. There'd be no replay value, save from a couple of branching choices. Which is all fine, and I think the current gloryhole scenes and first Amy hookup scenes came out okay ... But it got me thinking. 

This is a "lewdgame" after all - plus I'm a goddamn erotica writer by trade - and it was probably about time I pushed the SEX to the forefront of things. So instead of writing out a bunch of one-and-done scenes, I've instead created something I'm calling the Girl Games 'Sex Engine' - which is basically a way of dynamically creating hookups and sex scenes, which change based on various factors - what you choose, what you're wearing, which gender you're presenting, and even how horny the other character you're hooking up with is at the start of the scene (NPC arousal states are going to be much more of a thing from now on!). It means that I can just write little chunks of text based on these variables and the engine will pull them out and display them, based on what you choose, making for (hopefully) a much more fun, juicy and replayable experience. 

My plan is - eventually - that every main NPC in the game will have this data in the engine (yep, even Kevin) - so once you please them enough or discover their kinks or turn ons, there's every chance you can hook up with them! 

It's still some work, adding in each character sheet of info, but it's a way more scaleable and better thing for the game overall and so far I've added in core data for Amy, Dylan and a random dude called Michael who might approach you in the nightclub. And to prove this not all just talk and promises, I thought it would be fun to give you a little sneak peek at how it's running so far (plus it makes me feel better to actually give you something as a thank you for still hanging around and supporting me this month!).

Oh and as it's an online hosted thing, performance might vary depending on browser - I found it worked best for me using Firefox, while Chrome was a little slower. 

Finally please excuse the super shonky basic bitch menu screen, which I just threw in at the last minute so you can select between hookups from the dropdown menu! But play around with it a little and hopefully you can see what I mean, and how you could revisit characters and have different experiences. Also, i'm going to build in options for certain items from your backpack to appear as "useable". So say if you bought a strap on harness and dildo and you were fooling around with Jennifer ... maybe she'd want to give them a try? Or if you had condoms, maybe Amy might be a little more into going all the way. Who knows! ;)

Oh and on top of that, here's a sneek peek at a few of the new cute outfits you'll be able to wear in Version 0.4.2 (and I promise there'll be a few ways to earn the cash to buy them with too!). 

So hopefully as you can see, I haven't just been sitting on my ass doing nothing since my last update! 

There's still a little more work and polishing to be done before this version is ready even as a 'test build', so please do be patient but it will definitely be out before the end of May (my hope is by late next week, but I'm loathe to make any more promises).

It is a lot of fun, and I hope you keep making progress. It looks like it's super complicated to create, so I certainly can't complain on how long it takes. The sex engine adds a level of challenge as you have to keep trying different approaches to not get shut down. I would imagine one goal would be to see if you can get with everyone you meet one way or another. We no longer get asked if we have something big for our guide at the front desk, but maybe she's got something for us? And if you one day add multiples, say going off with Amy AND Dylan or some such, it would be that much harder to program. Don't get frustrated, there's great stuff here. Trying to figure out all the possibilities must look like the Charlie Day crazy conspiracy picture.

Work life balance is very important, so keep at it! The better your state of mind, the better the chances this game doesn’t end up abandoned as many before it. As for the update, the sneak peak looks amazing! And thanks for sharing the update with us ;)
