スタンディングだったけれどみんなで助け合っていて美しかった。セキュリティのスタッフもすぐにお水を配ってくれてありがとう。「しんどそうな人を見かけたら手を差し伸べてね」と最初に伝えた、私の拙い英語も聞き取ってくれてありがとう。

シカゴは舞台監督が照明も担っていて、演者の動きやお客さんの反応に合わせて瞬時に光を操るお仕事っぷりに脱帽しました。壁のほうにいた人たちのこともステージからちゃんと見えていました。

ショーは音楽がメインのようだけれど、空間も含めた総合芸術であることを改めて学ぶよきよきツアーを過ごしています。空調、後ろのバー、ステージの高さ、光、音響、エントランスからホールまでの景色、ハウスミュージック、現地スタッフ／我々の動き。お客さんひとりひとりの姿。すべてがショーのピースとなる。

2時間足らずの(時には30〜40分のための)夢の時間のために、幾日も指折り数え、お金を貯めて、重いライブハウスの扉をあけた、いつしかの愛しい亡霊をいつも胸に。

Although it was largely a standing venue, it was beautiful how everyone helped each other out. Thank you to the security who were so watchful and cooperative with handing out water. “If you see someone feeling unwell, please offer them a hand,” even with my limited English, I’m glad you all got the message.

In Chicago, the stage director was also operating lights, and their flexibility and responsiveness to those on stage and in the crowd was amazing. I could see everyone in the crowd from on stage, even the wallflowers.

Although it may seem like music is the star of the show, I’ve spent this tour reaffirming that the shows are all-encompassing experiences. The space itself, the bar in the back of the room, the height of the stage, light, sounds, what’s seen when you walk from the entrance to the room, house music, the way all of us move and interact with the space, they’re all parts of the show.

And in my heart is a beautiful ghost, counting down the days, saving up money, and opening the heavy doors of countless venues, just to dream a dream that can last from thirty minutes to two hours.
