I'd never been a Beach Boys fan before, but I've been thinking about them ever since this episode. If nothing else, they're a fascinating topic. Brian's plight, in particular, really resonates with me. And Mike Love is a really compelling...villain adjacent figure. Not a full villain, but obviously not a hero. Plus, Scott's telling is great. He's well-versed, passionate, and fair in his assessments of everyone involved. More Beach Boys, please:)

90s kids loved Flipper.

I saw the uhh “Beach Boys” last summer, and Mike Love made a point to make an anti-trans “joke.” It was about Anheuser-Busch had a problem with the song “Surfer Girl.” You know.. because people who aren’t hateful monsters insist that no one can identify as a girl… right? That’s the thing? Anyway, the vomitous yokels lapped it up and chortled while taking in the lamest Beach Boys cover band. The show started with a ball licking boomer jerk fest video compilation showcasing a time when Mike Love could claim to be relevant. He also stopped the concert in the middle to present a slide show about how John Stamos is his best friend. Lame. So lame. i would feel bad for him if he weren’t objectively terrible in all ways On the positive side, Bud Light cans were 2 for 3 dollars, so I got a pleasant buzz at low low prices in the lobby while waiting for the terrible concert to end. The members of Mike Love’s self-cock-sucking Beach Boys simulacrum should feel bad about themselves. Also Mike Love autotunes the fuck out of his vocals. This was confirmed after reading his litany of unsolicited assertions that he doesn’t use autotune.

For some reason I got it in my head that the Hawaii episodes also featured the Beach Boys. In a haze I thought one of the kids got lost they family finds them in the jungle and they stumble into a Beach Boys Hawaiian laua. Turns out it was just Stamos doing Elvis. Great episode of the pod regardless

Jessie and the Rippers seem like the kind of band that would open for Southside Johnny at The Stone Pony.

My first exposure to The Beach Boys was the 1996 remake of Flipper (I was 5). Paul Hogan plays a beach bum whose prized possession, a Hawaiian shirt given to him by Brian Wilson, gets destroyed in a hurricane. He wept and I wept for him.

Can anyone get Scott connected to Mike Love to make “The Last Wave” documentary?!

As a huge Basshead I would absolutely love to hear the complete confusion when the boys hear what kind of music Shaq makes and plays. I need to hear Scott do an impression of Diesel's iconic "LADIES ONLY!!" when he wants to start a mosh.

Re: If Henson made a Madame. THERE’S a reason that when I suggested Madame as a mothers day episode I paired the suggestion with Miss Piggy’s Hollywood.

Zero chance any topic is beating anything with Nick Wiger. The man is a legend
