An Update
Added 2023-06-29 15:36:38 +0000 UTCPatrons hello! I thought I’d give you all an update. I’ve had some changes in my personal life, which means I’m moving out of the space I’ve been filming in and into a new studio. The new space should give me a little more room to work in and more flexibility customizing the background. I can literally only afford to do that thanks to your donations here, so thank you again, so much, for your support.
I’ll be moving into the new space over the next 2-3 weeks. Video-wise, I have three coming up. One is a shorter video comparing nationalism and patriotism, which would be a ‘nailing down misused words‘ kind of video. In my head it’s a good idea but I might end up cutting it if it doesn’t come together as a good piece or if my schedule doesn’t allow it. The second video will probably be the most ambitious so far called ‘How World War 2 Began,’ which I could see running over an hour and will have a pretty epic scope. The third is a Patrons video on the Nazi Olympics in 1936. The research for all of them is mostly done. I’ve read something like 11 books so far for the origins of WW2 piece. I just have to sit down and actually make them. After all that I want to cover North Korea.
Thanks as always for your patience. And let me know if you have any thoughts/concerns.

2023-10-29 00:52:10 +0000 UTCHell of a big scope, start of WW2. A lot of culprits, my favourite, and often overlooked...FDR! Love your work. Peace be unto you.

2023-06-29 21:01:41 +0000 UTCSounds great! My time for responding in writing to your terrific work is limited, but I get to all your videos eventually! ( I save them in my library to share.) Whenever I have a question about some issue or other, I check your channel to see if you have provided a resource. That's the way I get to see them because once I have your answer to my question, I keep watching others that I've missed!! Thanks!

2023-06-29 20:02:47 +0000 UTCWill be great to see your balanced and nuance view on the origins of WW2. The simple answer that it was all about one madman is all to tidy and convenient, which history never is, and teaches us nothing. Can I assume you've considered Niall Fergusson's War of the World? It is a bit hit and miss, but the longitudinal view is helpful, and kind of like Alan Watts view that we tend to pick rather random points of time to consider the start and end of events, rather than really considering the chain of causation. At a minimum please consider if Japans invasion/s of China was the start of WW2, not Germany's invasion of Poland. After all it is called a 'world" war. Good luck with it. Will be a great watch for sure.

2023-06-29 19:07:57 +0000 UTCGood luck with the move. Cool that you are moving into a WW2 phase. Looking forward to it. I think there a few angles you could do really well, given you ability to make complex, nuanced subjects seem clear. 1. How did Post WW1 create WW2? 2. How does WW1 and post WW1 inform what is happening in Ukraine 3. What was different about immediate actions post WW1 and Post WW2 how did that affect those post war periods? 4. How should that affect what we think about our involvement in Ukraine conflict? 5. How is Ukraine conflict like Russia-Afghanistan (Charlie Wilson's war) conflict and should that inform what we do? Love your work. You are one of my favorite thought leaders and would love your take on these elements

2023-06-29 16:24:16 +0000 UTCAfter you finish those videos do you think you could go more in depth into Marx’s influence on the post war west?

2023-06-29 16:03:10 +0000 UTCHope the move goes well. Videos sound great, nationalism and patriotism are often misused and a solid topic!

2023-06-29 15:56:09 +0000 UTCKeep up the good work! I really look forward to the history of WWII beginning. Just know that we are very interested in what you have to say. It is always fascinating! Thank you.

2023-06-29 15:55:58 +0000 UTCGood luck with your "moving experience" Ryan, the good news is that you are getting a better space for your work. Looking forward to the Nat vs Pat discussion as not many others comment on this area. I have passed on a link to your work to a couple of university professors here in the UK, they like what you do very much and asked me to pass on their wishes to you.

2023-06-29 15:50:28 +0000 UTCSounds great, I reference events and places like the Anschluss and Sudetenland as juxtapositions for certain modern contexts and no one seems to know or remember anything beyond or before famous events like Pearl Harbor. Adjacently, Daniel Immerwahr has both a talk and a book (How to Hide an Empire: A History of the Greater United States) which touches on some interesting context, but may be out of scope of your current project as reading material. Looking forward to the video, I'm sure it'll be great.
