Announcement: Switching from "First-of-the-month billing" to "Subscription billing"
Added 2024-08-19 18:50:37 +0000 UTCDear Patrons,
I have received notification that Patreon will eventually be discontinuing the "First-of-the-month billing" option in 2025 due to Apple's new iOS App rules. To avoid issues in the future I'm going to be proactive and switch over to "Subscription billing" now for new Patrons (current patrons are not affected by this change).
New Patrons with the subscription billing model pay when they join and monthly on that same date instead of on the 1st of each month. For example, a member who signs up on April 12 is charged again on May 12. Members can visit their Membership settings tab and click on the View details button to see their next charge date.
I've actually been considering subscription-based billing for some time, as I believe it will offer greater convenience for Patrons so I don't mind making the change now. Previously, I've encountered issues where Patrons who signed up early on the first day of the month were double charged due to timezone differences, requiring me to issue refunds. This change will eliminate such double-charging issues in the future. Additionally, Patrons will no longer feel pressured to sign up on a specific day; they can join whenever they choose and expect the next billing cycle to occur on the same day the following month.
I'm still going to change the Dropbox passwords on the 1st or 2nd day of each month.
