Here they are, in all their mystical and magical magnificence: The Wizards from the Wizards’ Guild!
What can I say… Every month, I feel like: “God, is it cool enough? Did we do enough? Will the Patrons like it?”.
The team must somewhat be laughing behind my back, because every month I feel the same.
Then we output everything and the video comes out…
And then I realize…
WOOOOWW !!
I sure hope you will feel like me because, well... this is kicking some serious ass! And there is such a diversity of characters in this release!
Let me tell you a bit more about it…
Many Characters and Creatures for Many Different Uses
This is probably the most diverse release you can lay your hands on since the start of this Patreon.
What does that mean for you?
Well, tons of different gaming options!
High Ranking Wizards
Of course you have the all powerful, high ranking wizards that you deserve for that kind of release. But they are built in a way that gives you a vast array of options when talking about their specialties, alignments, races and overall characterization.
If you are more into RPGs, this gives you a lot of interesting PCs to play, either to represent one of your existing characters or to create a new one. They also make a very cool NPC gallery around which you can build either many encounters or full adventures.
Sel-Zelian, The Combat Mage will be perfect for back alley nightly encounters in a seedy city, while Makarian the Venerable Archivist will make for a very cool riddle-cracking sequence, or as a boss who looks deceptively weak but wields immense powers and secrets.
If you are more into wargames, well there are quite a few different types of mages to put on the battlefield… I know that some of these will instantly fit into several armies, like Efulgador who would be a great Chaos Sorcerer for a bird-like Chaos God...
And Fludiliah would be perfect amongst an hedonistic themed army.
Well, I tend to think that nearly everybody will find a use for Fludiliah...
Monsters and Troops and other super cool Characters!
Ok, I’m probably making this too long already, so let’s make it quick…
Have you seen the Familiars? How COOL are they? A Displacer Beast Kitten... yesss!!
And the monsters? Can’t have wizards without a Golem for sure? And that Cockatrice? How awesome and unique will it look in your army?
And soooo many types of Mimics to scare your very overwhelmed Apprentices because a good game should also be the opportunity to have a few good laughs, funny characters and manic situations.
And then there are these NPCs that we like so much because they are unique and really bring life to an adventure, like Granny Critter, the Monsters Merchant and Fat Mouth, the Components Merchant. Are these people trustworthy, plain dishonest or just a bit mischievous? That is for you to say… That’s your adventure!
And about the troops, well there are A LOT of combinations in this one!
The Troop section was a bit tricky because, well, Wizards are loners and not necessarily the type to raise an army. So we’ve followed your suggestions as much as possible to build the Wizards’ entourage and bodyguards. You can definitely create a lot of different situations with these!
Scenery
As promised in the previous release, we’ve sized down the centerpiece to a more printable size. It is freaking cool as a beautiful pedestal to showcase some of your best minis or as scenery for an epic encounter during your adventures. And it is chock-a-block full of little details!
But if you go to Overlord, you get a crazy cool kit that will let you build some amazing Wizards’ manors with high towers and bartizans and overhangs...
Hell, you could build a full city just with that kit!

Some of the mages are also nice, but much of this release is too Harry Potter whimsical for me. But that's ok, there's still enough to stick around (certainly now we are *finally* getting a backup for our subscription files... ) & next month may suit my personal taste more.

2021-07-31 04:43:02 +0000 UTCIt's interesting to peruse the comments and see what people are drawn to. Most of it is A+ stuff to me. The combat mage in particular stands out to me. I also really love the low level mages and, surprisingly to me, the constructs. I've never found constructs I like, and I've been looking actively for some to proxy as dwarven automatons for elder scrolls. With these models, I eagerly await some college of Winterhold stuff for Call to Arms so I can put the sculpts to good use. What I didn't like at all were the familiars and apprentices. I'm really, really not a fan. But that's what I find so interesting-- the same ones I dislike seem to be very popular amongst others. I think that speaks to the talent of the artists that they can create such varied styles and the talent of the marketers that they can combine enough of these disparate styles to appeal to an audience with varied tastes. Even though I personally would prefer more bad ass sculpts and no cutesy sculpts, I appreciate how it allows for a broader appeal to keep support high so I can continue to get more bad ass sculpts.

2021-07-30 23:06:13 +0000 UTCThey actually tried to do just that when they started adding the troops. They called it the Phalanx tier and it was only $6. But the patreon structure wouldn't allow for it so they had to do just the Overlord tier.

2021-07-29 21:37:08 +0000 UTCI'd like to make two critiques. One is slow down on the videos. It would be nice if we had a couple of extra seconds per figure. Two is I'd love to see a tier for "soldiers" or the smaller figures that are only part of overlord and leave out the bigger more detailed ones. Im more likely to be able to use those in a game than the "hereos". Another $10 tier that has those and the terrain appeals to me a lot.

2021-07-29 18:23:21 +0000 UTCWonderful idea having a Wizard's Guild which goes thematically well with your fantastic Theives Guild set you released a while back (which btw I created a campaign that included figures from that set and the Pirates set, especially the Queen Shaheerii character). While I realize you were originally favoring Warhammer armies type thinking, maybe *in the 3D printing world* you're actually better positioned to make these inspiring, charismatic, fantastic figures for tabletop RPGs instead? I was thinking about this the other day, if I wanted to buy an entire army for a local Warhammer game, I would probably rather buy the whole army from Raging Heroes where you guys have produced the miniatures instead of my printer printing them...it's so much more time, money and work to print, cleanup, sand and polish to do that massive project on my own, plus the prints are sometimes hit and miss and my poor sla printer might have it's bad day...and then there's still having the time to devote to painting them as well. I play WH, D&D and sometimes I just buy figures because they look cool...but for 3d prints it's almost entirely for D&D. The advantage being that I have a large 3d print collection of great stuff, but only have to go through the trouble of printing for figures I will be using in a near future game. Just my perspective and, who knows, I may be in a tiny minority on this.

I adore all the character you pour into the 'less traditional' designs and ideas. I was impressed, but not excited, seeing the archmages (dont get me wrong, theyre amazing models, but I see a LOT of amazing models - When I see really new things is when I get excited) But when we got to the merchants and the apprentices and the mimics and familiars I fell in love

2021-07-28 10:15:24 +0000 UTCFabulous job as usual and I think swapping releases between RPG and wargaming themes consecutively will generally keep both types of collector happy... of course not everyone will be happy with the RPG releases but then they have something to look forward to the following month - I'm not sure if that's the strategy you're going with but either way I'm happy.

As you say, the Range of Miniatures is very wide - playable for a lot of different armys, building cool Dioramas and so on. This Month it is possible, that I will print the whole collection! Thank you so much for the detailed and very good and epic Ideas! I love the most Makarian (I like "Bookmasters", intelligence is a better weapon as only muscles...), Fludiliah (her Pose is so cool) and Branny critter (No words, such a nice Idea and design). Also the Cockatrice is such a cool Beast! Big, Big Love :) - But nevertheless, the other Miniatures are also so, so cool!!!

I can't join a second time, but I'm definitely not going anywhere with sets like these. I dunno if my suggestion of mimics was a part of the decition, but I'm thrilled to see them included. The jumpers look awesome, and the component merchant is a mini that is absolutely perfect for an NPC I presented to my players last session. I could go on, but yeh.... Just... amazing.

If you wanted to make this release D&D oriented, there is a lack of racies, so you could make mixed units (Human, Elf, Dwarf, Half-orc, Goblin, Tiefling, Kenny, Yuan-ti, Tabaxi). I hope you'll make next releases not D&D oriented. Just to make an example, the Paladin Knights is good for Wargames (AoS mostly) and D&D (warriors, clerics, paladins). I'd like to see something good for both and not for only one (when possible of course).

Although I will say I agree with Jessica above That the one piece missing is the male hunk wizard why are the female wizards always young and gorgeous but the males are old and bent over. Oh well still a great set.

(with all the panning +zooming effects they use...). I don't dislike the video, it's some nice work too. I just want to be able to sit and look at the shiney new awesome thing coming next month without getting a headache from all these things speeding across the screen that I'm trying to focus on, yer know?

I always find the video to be a bit hard to watch with how fast the images move (and have to pause every second to see the good stuff). Certainly not helpful for those with motion sickness too I should think... Just something to consider please. Simple up close still images alongside the video. Doesn't have to be anything fancy.

The centerpiece...I actually see myself putting this one on display in my gaming area. I've liked the others, but only have so much room. I'll make room for this one. What a lovely, fantastical set...I was getting so many ideas just watching this quick video. The Elementalist is really gorgeous, and the Fihyr makes me wish I could print these to look exactly like this, with the lovely translucent amber and blue accents~ But that just makes me more determined to paint them as well as I can! Edit: Ok I did my second watch through to list off my first picks, but honestly you're batting like 90% If pressed, I'd go with the battle mage first, then in no particular order Smoke, Elementalist, Witch, I really like what you did with the Lich, and the shopkeeps, and the apprentices have the most flavor. Oh and I like the archivist and, well, you see my dilemma. I've really come to like the troops each month, even though I'm not (yet) a wargamer. I feel like you did a great job with our suggestions. The portal jumpers was a really cool idea and "That rodent has a vicious streak a mile wide!" I so want to surround him with dead knights. Probably the least exciting thing is the building pieces -- But! I don't expect those to be brilliant! This is as it should be. I like that if I just stick with you guys I will eventually have my choice of basic architecture building bricks. I've actually got 2 FDM printers working on some castle pieces right now. Thanks for being awesome! Edit2: Just realized the low level mages have hints of the four elements in them. Nice. There are a lot of subtle things going on in this release.
