Marcus Aurelius was the Emperor in the beginning. He even is the founder of the belief of Stoicism. There are books that he wrote you can read today. Commodus is Marcus's Son. Lucilla is Marcus's Daughter AKA Commodus's sister. Lucius Verus is Lucilla's son AKA Commodus's Nephew. Quintus is the leader of the Pretorian Guard which is basically the emperor's own secret service. The fight they are about to do in the colosseum is the second fall of Carthage meaning the end of the Second Punic War which was between Rome and Carthage (Carthage is located in North Africa around Numidia.) They references Hannibal. They are talking about Hannibal barca, he was one of the most famous gernerals of the time. He led a big Carthaginian army through spain to attack Rome from the North.
